Los Angeles Lakers: How Pau Gasol Can Regain Past Form

Paul Gasol, the 33 year old big man out of Spain, will be playing his 12th season in the NBA come fall. Over the years, he has played many different roles. In 2001 with the Grizzles, he was the “go to guy”. In 2008 with the Lakers, he was the second option behind Kobe Bryant and last year, he was the third option behind Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard. With Howard’s departure from the Lakers, it leaves Pau as the second option again, which brings up the question, how should he play as the second option, in order for the Lakers to be successful?
For the 7 foot Pau Gasol to help make the Lakers a successful team again, he needs to play like he is the “go to guy”. Gasol has a tendency over a long season to disappear, or take a back seat to Kobe Bryant. If Gasol really wants to help the Lakers, he is going to need to play like the Pau of the past.
