We all know that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James doesn’t have too many years left in him. He still remains to be a dominant force in the league at the age of 39 but at the same time, it’s a known fact that he can’t go on for too much longer.
NBA insider Shams Charania has shed some light on LeBron’s retirement plans and it appears that the rumors are true that the four-time NBA champion has just two more years left.
Shams made an appearance on a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, wherein LeBron’s retirement plan was one of the topics of conversation. It was at that point that Charania dropped a bombshell about James potentially walking away in 2026:
“I think the expectation around the league is up to about two years (before LeBron retires),” Shams said. “Could LeBron James say, ‘I want to play three years’? It’s not out of the realm of possibility. At the end of the day, it’s up to LeBron James. “
Shams hints that LeBron James could potentially play for two more seasons
The 2025/26 season will be his 23rd year in the NBA, matching his jersey number, and the All-Star game will be in Los Angeles

Shams did hint at LeBron adding another year, but what is clear is that James is going to be out of the NBA in the not-so-distant future.
Charania also added that another strong consideration from James is how his family feels about all this. LeBron reportedly knows “knows how much people around him have sacrificed” and it appears that the time for him to put his family ahead of his basketball career is imminent.
Whatever the case might be, we all better enjoy King James’ greatness while we still can.
