Los Angeles Lakers’ Taking Major Step in Search for New Head Coach ‘In the Coming Days’
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers fans can expect significant movement from their team in the coming days with regard to what has been an exhaustive search for their next head coach. This is according to a recent ESPN report that states that the Lakers are planning to take significant steps in their process of finding Darvin Ham’s replacement soon.

At this point, it just feels like an official announcement is becoming more and more imminent.

Los Angeles Lakers Expected to Step Up Search ‘In the Coming Days’

According to a report by ESPN insiders Dave McMenamin and Adrian Wojnarowski, this week will be pivotal in the Lakers’ head coaching search:

“The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to start contacting coaching candidates in the coming days, with an initial concentration on sitting assistants and ex-head coaches with whom they have less familiarity, sources told ESPN on Monday,” read the report.

The report also indicated that general manager Rob Pelinka is “gathering information” on potential candidates, which at this point, appears to be headlined by former NBA sharpshooter turned podcaster/broadcaster JJ Redick.

Pelinka has reportedly highlighted the term “grinder” as a crucial characteristic that he requires from the team’s next man at the helm. Former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego as well as Miami Heat assistant Chris Quinn are two more candidates that were mentioned in the report.

“The search is expected to proceed in stages with this first wave, then a period of talking to coaches with whom the Lakers have more history, followed by a whittling of the list to a final round of candidates, sources said.”

Whatever the case might be, you can be sure that the Lakers brass will be or have been consulting with LeBron James throughout this entire process.
