Rumors and Rants:
Los Angeles Lakers
Golden State Warriors
The Los Angeles Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown Friday morning, then the team turned in its best performance of the season just hours later. The Lakers blew out the Golden State Warriors 101-77 to secure their second win of the season.
Interim head coach Bernie Bickerstaff has claimed he knows he won’t be the head coach very long, but he’s 1-0 at the helm of the team. Obviously, Bickerstaff probably didn’t have a whole lot to do with the turnaround, but still he got a result and the team was ready to play.
Kobe Bryant had an excellent all-around game, finishing with 27 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, while Pau Gasol chipped in with a double-double (14 points, 16 rebounds) and second-year points guard Darius Morris added a career-high 10 points.
Dwight Howard had a quiet night, with just six points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks. He played just 24 minutes because he wasn’t needed and it was a chance to give him some rest.
But the Lakers looked better everywh...

TOO OLD FOR THIS %@
Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant was asked about his "Death Stare" towards Mike Brown that happened as the Lakers were losing in Utah against the Jazz for the team's fourth loss of the season. Bryant tells the reporters that he's to old for all this and that he's been Brown's biggest supporter. “I don’t give a [expletive] how it’s interpreted....
DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YA
Following a disappointing 1-4 start and much speculation regarding his job security, the Lakers reportedly have fired head coach Mike Brown.
EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned guard Darius Johnson-Odom to the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League, it was announced Saturday by General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
Johnson-Odom, the 55th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, was acquired by the Lakers from Dallas on draft night. The 6-2 guard out of Marquette averaged 15.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2...
We can understand the excitement at the prospect of Phil Jackson returning to the bench for the Lakers. The fastest way to exorcise the failures of the recent past is to try to recapture the greatness of the not-so-recent past, and Jackson and the Lakers had a lot of success during their on-again, off-again marriage from 1999 to 2011, even if the marriage was not always a serene...
After the Lakers loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, cameras focused in on Kobe Bryant giving someone a death stare. Most assumed, myself included that Kobe Bryant was giving that “look” to head coach Mike Brown. Kobe has since come out and said “people are bored” and he’s “too old” for this stuff, [...]
SALT LAKE SPRAY-DOWN
A Lakers fan who was ejected from a game against the Jazz allegedly waited outside the arena and pepper sprayed a Jazz fan he had an altercation with during the game.
Phil Jackson has known for months that he wanted to coach again. Mike Brown was quickly removed from the Lakers job once a suitable testing period (five games) had been completed. Kobe Bryant wanted Jackson’s return. Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash would be lifted to their full potential just as soon as Jackson, who was about as sure to take the job the minute it opened...
With the biggest news of the week in the NBA coming out of Los Angeles in the firing of Mike Brown as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, one has to wonder who will inherit the “Super Team” of Nash, Kobe, Pau, and Dwight. I bet we can hardly count the free agent coaches out there with our fingers and toes that would chomp at the bit to coach a starting unit like that; but lets...
The Lakers went out Friday night and smacked up the Golden State Warriors 101-77 for win number two. Of course following the game, the question everyone wanted answered was who would Kobe like to see coach the Lakers. This is what Mamba had to say on that subject: “Phil, obviously, you guys know how I [...]
LOS ANGELES – In the span of a few short weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers went from blockbuster to lackluster, from dream team to nightmare. In the span of four quarters -- and with a new coach -- everything became right in LaLa Land once more. Los Angeles cruised to the 101-77 win over Golden State at Staples Center on Friday night, just hours after firing head coach Mike Brown...
While rumors continue to swirl about the possible return of Phil Jackson to the bench, the Los Angeles Lakers are keeping their focus on trying to move past their slow start.
The Lakers will attempt to move one step closer to the .500 mark when they welcome the Sacramento Kings to Staples Center on Sunday night.
With the additions of superstars Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, expectations...
