Luigi Datome will sign with the Detroit Pistons, the Italian League MVP announced Tuesday on his Facebook page.
“I decided to become a player of the Detroit Pistons,” a translation of Datome’s post reads. “I think it may be the right place for me to make another quantum leap in my career and to realize the dream of a lifetime. I am very excited to join the Group of players in Detroit. I want to thank my family, Mr Tan, all Virtus Roma and its fans for their continued support and wish to Virtus the best for the future.”
Datome had been receiving interest from other NBA teams, including the Grizzlies, who reportedly extended him a one-year contract offer. However, the Pistons have swooped in and added the gifted 6-foot-9 wing player to the fold:
Source calls him the best outside shooter in Europe. 6-9 small forward. Details coming, but two-year deal expected. #Pistons

We’ll have to wait and see what the exact plans are here, but this could wind up being a significant pickup for the Pistons.
