ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Jacque Vaughn says he's "humbled" to become the Magic's next head coach and that he's excited to lead the team next season, no matter what Orlando's roster looks in the face of Dwight Howard's unsolved status. Vaughn was named the 10th coach in franchise history over the weekend and was officially introduced in a news conference Monday. He takes over for Stan Van Gundy, who was fired in May. The 37-year-old Vaughn has yet to hold a head coaching post, but the former player spent the past two seasons as an assistant with San Antonio. General manager Rob Hennigan confirmed a recent meeting with Howard, but says he's keeping the details confidential. Magic CEO Alex Martins called Vaughn "the right person for this moment in our history."

Vaughn's flexibility key as he joins the Magic

Shortly after being introduced as the new head coach of the Orlando Magic on Monday, Jacque Vaughn shared what he felt was the best piece of advice he received in the days leading up to him accepting his first head-coaching job. Get good people around you, the 37-year-old former NBA point guard Vaughn said. Its as simple as that. Wise words, indeed, from the nameless mentor. But...

DeVos family reason Vaughn returned

Jacque Vaughn had an undistinguished 12-year career as you could have. He started only 123 of 776 career games and only started more than 41 games just once. That one season was in Orlando in 2003, his only season in Orlando. Vaughn signed a one-year deal with Orlando in 2002. He left a year later for Atlanta as Orlando was in its surround-Tracy McGrady-with-whatever-they-could...

Orlando’s Leap Of Faith With Vaughn

The one thing everyone will have to get over is that lack of experience. Clearly Jacque Vaughn had done enough already to convince general manager Rob Hennigan, CEO Alex Martins and owner representative Dan DeVos, who all took the stage with Vaughn on Monday at Amway Center. Orlando is looking clearly toward its future. Vaughn is here to develop that.

The leap of faith with Jacque Vaughn

The storylines are written pretty clearly as the Magic hired Jacque Vaughn to be the franchise's new head coach. Shaquille O'Neal may have made sure of that when he expressed the feeling of a lot of observers when news came down the Magic were considering Jacque Vaughn, the inexperience, recently retired assistant coach for the Spurs. If there was any hope of keeping Dwight...

Magic hire Jacque Vaughn

It is not quite a trade involving Dwight Howard, but the Magic have begun moving forward toward their uncertain future. The Magic hired Spurs assistant coach Jacque Vaughn to be their head coach. This is not a move that likely will convince Dwight Howard to rescind his trade request. After all, Vaughn has only two years of coaching experience and he is not (as far as we know) the...

Glen Davis, for one, excited about Jacque Vaughn

The first player Jacque Vaughn likely talked to as he introduced himself to his new team was the only player at Amway Center on Monday afternoon. Glen Davis was hanging around the back of the press conference and met with Vaughn afterward. Davis snuck out before the majority of the media could talk with him, but he spoke with John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com and gave a ringing endorsement...
