When the Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike D'Antoni instead of Phil Jackson as their new coach last month, Lakers legend Magic Johnson publicly voiced his displeasure. The Lakers sported a 4-7 record entering Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, prompting Johnson to take another shot at his former team. Speaking at a Tuesday press conference in which the Los Angeles Dodgers introduced newly signed pitcher Zack Greinke, Johnson, a part owner of the Dodgers, criticized D'Antoni's strategy. "What the coach has to do is say I have a certain philosophy but I don't have the players to play that scheme and that system, but what I do have is two of the best 7-footers in the game," Johnson said. "When (power forward) Pau Gasol was on that block, he averaged 18 points. He shot 53 percent. And he is the best passing big man in the game. "But you have him at the free-throw line. That makes no sense. That's not his game. His game is catc...

Magic Johnson is questioning new coach Mike D'Antoni's system with the slumping Los Angeles Lakers, saying ''it doesn't fit the talent the Lakers have.'' Magic Johnson: Lakers are misusing Pau Gasol, who needs to be in the post

The Los Angeles Lakers are struggling mightily. They have lost eight of their last 11 games and look to be getting worse by the day — particularly on defense late in games. Pau Gasol has been sidelined with a knee injury and has missed the last five games. Four of those have been losses, and Magic Johnson believes the absence of Gasol has been a major factor. “Gasol, to me, is...

Where’s The Fun In Fiscal Restraint?

Dodgers owner Magic Johnson and GM Ned Colletti introduce Hyun-Jin Ryu last week. I take no credit for that title… In truth I swiped it from a post I read on ESPN last week. No biggie, they won’t even know it’s gone, plus it’s the season of giving (and taking). So… You know, the Dodgers had their own Annual Holiday Party today at Dodger Stadium – only it was a whole lot...

Dodgers poised to make a statement

As I write this, the weather in Los Angeles is a comfortable, sunny 70 degrees.   Inside Dodger Stadium however, they have turned up the heat.   The Dodgers’ signing of Zack Greinke is only the latest in a series of blockbuster moves the team has made since Magic Johnson and some of his very [...]
