Magic to Waive RJ Hampton
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Magic are planning to waive guard R.J. Hampton, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Hampton, 22, is 6-foot-4 and his playing time has been fairly sporadic, as he is averaging 5.7 points on 44 percent shooting in 26 games this season. He’s averaging about 14 minutes a night in those games.

The No. 24 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Hampton played for the Nuggets as a rookie. He was then traded to the Magic, with guard Gary Harris, as part of the deal that sent forward Aaron Gordon to Denver. He has also played for the Lakeland Magic of the G League.

In related news, the Magic are converting the two-way contract of forward Admiral Schofield to a standard deal, as we relayed here.

Players must be waived by March 1 to be eligible for another team’s playoff roster.
