Found December 31, 2012 on Orlando Magic Daily:
The Orlando Magic obviously lost Dwight Howard, who is one of the best defensive players in the NBA, in the offseason, and many expected the team's defense to suffer mightily as a result. But early in the season, the Magic have showed promise at times on defense, despite being very young in the frontcourt. It became the bedrock of the team's fast start. However, lately, the Magic have struggled on defense, and this has led to a five-game losing streak. While they certainly are not a formidable force on defense, the Magic have struggled with turnovers lately and the defense has helped them stay in games. As Ish Smith described it after a disappointing loss against the Raptors where the defense was completely worked in a 35-point blowout loss, Orlando's defense is vitally important because the margin for error for the team is so small. When the defense slips, paired with an offense struggling, the results can be very ugly. This might be why when Jacque Vaughn a...

Van Gundy: Dwight isn't himself

Stan Van Gundy says Dwight Howard has not looked explosive or dominant since joining the Lakers and does not seem like himself.

Glen Davis and leading from the sidelines

There is a big hole in Orlando's lineup. Just about everyone will remind you about it. The five-game losing streak Orlando is suffering through is (perhaps) coincidentally matching the time since Glen Davis suffered a strained shoulder. To that point, Davis was puting in a career season in averaging a career-best 16.0 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game. His scoring...

Stan Van Gundy: Dwight Howard hasn’t looked like himself

Stan Van Gundy still communicates with the player who was most responsible for him being successful with the Orlando Magic, and the same guy who was chiefly responsible for him being fired. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Van Gundy said he still exchanges friendly text messages with Dwight Howard. In the interview, Van Gundy discussed Howard’s status with the Los Angeles...

Magic rebound, but can't overcome Heat

The Magic knew they would need a tall effort to bounce back from a 35-point effort. The frustration was palpable in the locker room over the defensive breakdowns and the deficit the final score ended up being. You could even perhaps see it in the way the players were pressing to get those points back. The focus in practice, knowing the Heat were coming into town, was on the Magic...

Raptors rip undermanned Magic by 35

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Even after Saturday's 123-88 blasting of the Orlando Magic to conclude a .500 December, Toronto Raptors coach Dwayne Casey said his team hasn't turned the corner. "Not yet," said Casey, whose team is now 7-1 in its last eight games after posting its largest margin of victory on the season. "Defensively, we still have a ways to go. We'...

The Starting Lineup: Nikola Vucevic Rips 29 Rebounds vs Heat

In grabbing 29 rebounds against the Miami Heat, Nikola Vucevic broke an Orlando Magic franchise record previously held by none other than Shaquille O’Neal.  With all due respect to Vucevic (who happens to be a fine young player averaging a double-double on the season), Chris Bosh should probably be ashamed of himself.  The Heat did manage to beat the Magic in overtime (112-110...

Kobe: 'Best I've played in a while'

The Los Angeles Lakers may have started slow at just 15-15 for the season, but one player says this is the best he's played in a long time. This is probably the best I've played in a while," Kobe Bryant told ESPN after Monday's practice.  "I've had years the last few years where I've felt pretty good but we kept my minutes down so the numbers didn...

76ers-Lakers Preview

The Los Angeles Lakers are slowly starting to resemble the team most thought they would be after headline-grabbing offseason acquisitions. The Philadelphia 76ers, conversely, are fading fast after a solid start. The Lakers seek their seventh win in eight games and their fourth straight at home on Tuesday night when they face the road-weary 76ers. After adding Dwight Howard and...

But it’s a fresh season now, with all kinds of plots, And my poem that I share is the greatest ever written by a lot. Lob City is lobbing, and never losing...
