The New York Knicks are back! Again! What a week is was in NYC. Harvard alum, Jeremy Lin, has brought excitement back to the Garden, and Knicks fans are fired up. The Knicks had been struggling all season, and with injuries to Carmelo Anthony and a leave of absence from A’m'a’r'e’, it looked futile. But Jeremy Lin has come out-of-nowhere and put the Knicks on a 5-game winning streak. Or as the New York Post is calling it, a Linning Streak.
Yes, you read that correctly, a Linning Streak. New York papers live for this stuff. All papers do. I remember an old headline from when the Houston Oilers ended their tenure in Texas losing to the Lions. The Detroit Free Press of News used the headline “Oils well that ends well.” It was clever, but it becomes annoying when you see it every single day, which is what happens in New York. This is the reason Bobby Bonilla could never make it here.
Here are a few of annoying word plays that I and other NYC-are readers have been subjected to:
1. Linsanity
2. The Lindicator
3. Time for Gel-Lin
4. Melo faces Mission: Linpossible
5 For the Lin!
6. The Mighty Lin
It has only been about 10 or so days since Jeremy Lin took center stage, but I am sure the puns are not done.
