Old? Yes, the Spurs definitely are that. Too old? They don’t think so. As Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili drag their mid-30s bodies into an NBA Finals matchup with LeBron James and the Heat, much of the story has revolve around the Spurs players’ ages. Duncan is 37. Ginobili is 35. Tony Parker just turned 31 less than a month ago, although he feels older because he came into the league at 11. (Actually, he was 19.) The Heat actually have the older average “effective” age, though, and that is not just because veterans like Ray Allen, 37, and Juwan Howard, 39, pull Miami’s mean upward. Effective age is weighted by minutes played, which means 34-year-old Shane Battier gets counted against the Heat more than 30-year-old Joel Anthony. Once again, Anthony fails to come through for the Heat. But the image of the Spurs as graybeards sticks, and at least one Spur has no problem with that. “We’ve been old for probably eight years now,” Ginobili said, according to Reuters. “I remember, in 2007, o...

People Still Think This Picture Of Manu Ginobili With A ‘F*ck LeBron’ Sign Is Real

Back in March, San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili became presumably the first NBA player to ever host an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit. Someone else may have done it before him, but I read that he was the first on a Spurs message board and this is a crash course on Internet laziness, so bingo bango – conclusions! As with all AMA sessions, Ginobili proved it was him...

San Antonio Spurs stars dubbed ‘The Biggest 3′ on Sports Illustrated cover

Sports Illustrated's most recent cover features Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan as The Biggest 3. The Heat can't be thrilled.

Manu Ginobili Throws Amazing Pass to Tony Parker Through Norris Cole’s Legs (Video)

Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night between the Spurs and Heat provided many exciting plays in what was a thrilling finish, but perhaps the best one was almost completely missed. The incredible play came early in the second quarter when Spurs guard Manu Ginobili delivered a pass to a cutting Tony Parker. That obviously doesn’t sound very exciting, but wait until you actually...

Stephen Jackson Says Release From Spurs Result of Refusing to Admit Manu Ginobili, Danny Green Were Better

Stephen Jackson is a sensitive soul, and just a year ago he admitted that Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was the only coach in the NBA who could “handle” him. The 35-year-old “Captain Jack” is known for his clutch shots and rangy defense, but he has burned bridges throughout the league in his 13-year career. Last season, Jackson seemed to have rediscovered the home he never should...

Spurs way looking like right one, now, more than ever

A year ago, Tim Duncan went from being the third highest-paid player in basketball to the fourth highest-paid on his team. No one particularly noticed, because everyone knew he would to re-sign in San Antonio, and yes, his 12 million per year represented a pay cut, but it was the Spurs, so of course. In the Associated Press story about the new contract, though, one quote sticks...

Settling the Debate: Tim Duncan vs Kobe Bryant

Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant are no strangers to one another. (Credit) I don’t know a single person who prefers Dunkin Donuts to Krispy Kreme. You probably don’t, either. Yet there are easily 10 Dunkin Donuts for every Krispy Kreme you might be lucky enough to spot. We’re blasted with Dunkin Donuts imagery. If you live in a major city, you see it everywhere; if you watch any...

NBA Finals: Tim Duncan starts slow, finishes big in Game 1 win

Earlier in his career, when head coach Gregg Popovich opted to bring Manu Ginobili off the bench in favor of less talented players like Brent Barry and Michael Finley the saying went "It doesn't matter who starts the game, but who finishes it."  In honor of Tim Duncan's Game 1 of the the 2013 Finals I'd like to amend that saying to "It doesn't matter...

Tony Parker, Tim Duncan Coach Up Spurs While Gregg Popovich Rests During Timeout Against Heat (Video)

Gregg Popovich is widely considered to be the best coach in the NBA, and his four championship rings and his string of 14 consecutive 50-win seasons make that point hard to debate. But the Spurs’ coach has an advantage over the rest of his colleagues. On a crucial possession the Spurs’ win over the Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday, Popovich did not even bother to...

Happy Hour – NBA Finals Preview

The old Big Three versus the new Big Three. The Spurs big three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobli are three for three in NBA Finals. The Heat’s big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh are one for two and looking to repeat as champions. The Spurs are back in the Finals for the first time since 2007, and for the first team this group is facing the Eastern...

NBA Finals Preview: Miami Heat (1) vs San Antonio Spurs (2)

The NBA Finals are finally here.  The San Antonio Spurs waited a weeks time to find out who they would be matching up with for the NBA’s most prized possession, the Larry O’Brien Trophy.  The Miami Heat eliminated the Indiana Pacers in 7 games on Monday night and will receive a few days rest before the Finals tip on ABC on Thursday Night. This...

Comments from the Other Side - Miami Meltdown Game 1

Heat fans are nothing if not predictable.  They start out with everyone on their team being awesome and by the end of the game they hate every single one of them.  Not even Lewuss (their term, not mine) is immune to the attacks.  And even when Ray is hitting his shots, they realize that he gives up as much as he scores.  And it sure is rich to hear a Heat fan calling any other...
