Found March 24, 2013 on Project Spurs:
The matchup for tonight when the San Antonio Spurs visit the Houston Rockets will be between Kawhi Leonard and Chandler Parsons. In three games against the San Antonio Spurs, Parsons has averaged 17ppg this season. He's shooting 35% from the 3-point line and 48% overall from the field. Parsons is a 6'9" sharpshooting small forward who can easily get clean shots over shorter forwards. Kawhi Leonard may give him problems when he's defending Parsons, but we haven't seen too much of that with Leonard dealing with nagging injuries early on in the season. He's only played in one game against Houston this season. Leonard will be dealt with the responsibility of defending one of Houston's best shooters and looking to shut down their biggest weapon in the 3-point shot. What Leonard must do on offense: Kawhi Leonard will likely get some easy looks if he keeps in motion on the offense end. Houston is 28th (102.8ppg) in points allowed this season in the league and they haven't been too shy about letting that stat out against the Spurs with S.A. scoring over 114ppg in all three games against this team. With Leonard's versatility on offense, he'll be able to make the Rockets defense uncomfortable while they focus on Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, or Manu Ginobili on the floor. Kawhi is shooting 66% (75-133) from the restricted area and he'll be looking to cut to the basket on the Rockets while their best defensive big man, Omer Asik, focuses on Duncan. Leonard is also shooting 46% (42-92) from the corner three and this is one of the primary reasons why Tony Parker has been getting cleaner looks off the pick and roll this season. What Leonard must do on defense: The Spurs may want to get away with James Harden trying to score the majority of the points himself on drives and have Leonard focus on Parsons with his height and length likely being a problem for the Houston small forward. Parsons is shooting 63% (192-312) from the restricted area, mainly with his height and foot speed causing problems for other defenders. The Spurs play two legitimate big men in the paint, so it shouldn't come that easy to Parsons as his average this game. He's also shooting 53% (55-104) from the corner 3-point line, but is more comfortable shooting from the wing. He's only shooting 34% (77-229) from there, but gets the easiest looks in transition where the Rockets prefer to attack with Harden or Lin mastering the fast break. Leonard will have to stay with him and pay attention to where he motions along the floor. This matchup will depend on how well Leonard can defend Chandler Parsons tonight and if he can take away the 3-point shot from him, which will make the Rockets struggle throughout the game without.

Rockets send loud message to NBA's best

HOUSTON Houston Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson likes to say Greg Smith is "ox strong." And now we know what it would look like if oxen could dunk. Smith brought disgrace upon the Splitter family by dunking on favorite son Tiago with such disrespect, such obscenity, such brazen force that, had this been a playground game, Splitter would have had to go home, drink...

When you are in the your first year playing for the San Antonio Spurs, how can you ensure that you will get minutes during the push for the playoffs and the playoffs themselves? If you are Nando De Colo, you make your presence felt on the defensive end along with continuing to do the little things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. You also show now fear or backing down...

Video: Rockets’ Greg Smith dunks all over Tiago Splitter

Tweet In his second-year out of Fresno State, Greg Smith is still not a household name by any means, averaging just 14.1 minutes and 5.4 points per game this season for the Houston Rockets. That still didn’t stop him from trying to get his own poster on Sunday night against the Spurs: Is that probably [...]

Ginobili on free agency, Phoenix Suns, and more during 'Ask Me Anything'

The San Antonio Spurs and Manu Ginobili made some history this past week when he became the first NBA player to partake in the "Ask Me Anything" event by Reddit. Fans were able to communicate with Ginobili and ask him practically anything that were on their minds and Manu was not shy about answering. The questions covered various topics from other NBA teams to what...

Video: Rockets' Smith puts Splitter on a poster

It must be the month of posterizations in the NBA. Not only did we have the DeAndre Jordan dunk on Brandon Knight and the LeBron James facial on Jason Terry now we can add Rockets' Greg Smith to the list of dunkers who decimated players in the paint. During last night's Spurs-Rockets matchup, the game was still hotly contested when the Rockets were heading back on...

CC video of the day: James Harden's game-winning shot vs. Spurs

Heading into the contest versus the Spurs, the Rockets probably were not given much of a chance considering the Spurs have won the first three meetings this season. However, the game turned into an exciting one with both teams going toe-to-toe for four quarters and just when it seemed San Antonio was on the verge of sweeping Houston, James Harden came through in the clutch. In...

Greg Smith Dunks All Over Tiago Splitter

Prior to James Harden’s game-winning jumper, teammate Greg Smith had a pretty impressive play of his own. A nice feed from Jeremy Lin gave Smith all the room he needed to soar through the lane for the one-handed dunk all over Spurs’ Tiago Splitter.

Spurs-Rockets Preview

With Tony Parker back, the San Antonio Spurs appear to be in much better shape as they continue their quest for the top seed in the Western Conference. Parker has also been a big reason why the Spurs have an opportunity to wrap up their first four-game season sweep of the Houston Rockets since 2005-06 on Sunday night. Following his eight-game absence because of a sprained left...

Derrick Favors Dunks all Over Matt Bonner (Video)

Matt Bonner I hate that it had to be you. It seems to me that defenders are throwing caution to wind this season and sacrificing their bodies and egos for the good of the team. We’ve seen Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Knight and Boston Celtics veteran Jason Terry receive the most devastating of posterizations this season, and unfortunately, the San Antonio Spurs power forward can...
