The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday by the score of 119-112 to drop to 19-14 on the season, third in the Southwest Division. The team is eighth in scoring and sixth in assists despite the season-long absence of point guard Devin Harris. But there is light at the end of the tunnel for Harris. As reported by Eddie Sefko at, Harris said on Friday that he hopes to be able to participate in full practices in ten days.  That would mean he would start working out with the team around January 13.  Harris had surgery during the off-season on his left foot and has been recovering ever since.Coach Rick Carlisle is pleased with Harris' progress, although is cautious with his veteran point guard.“He has increased his activity in the last week and done some light court work.  He’ll continue to do that for another week, and we’ll see where we are. It sounds like if it continues to go the right way, he could possibly be back then for some live practice and court work. So we’ll see. It appears to be on the right path again. We just got to make sure we don’t overdo it with too much too soon.”The Mavericks have been going with Jose Calderon, Shane Larkin and Gal Mekel at the point in the absence of Harris. Calderon is averaging 12 points and 4.8 assists per game. Larkin is adding 3.3 points and 2 assists per game and Mekel is averaging 2.9 points and 1.8 assists off the bench.Harris is in his tenth season out of Wisconsin.  The veteran guard has played with the Mavericks, Nets, Jazz and Hawks. Last season with the Hawks, he averaged 9.9 points and 3.4 assists per game. In 601 career games, Harris is averaging 12.8 points and 4.9 assists per game.
