Dirk Nowitzki is going to be out longer than most had hoped.  The Dallas Mavericks' star revealed yesterday that he would not return until mid-December at the earliest.  It was certainly a blow to a team that is kicking and flailing as hard as they can to keep their collective head above water.  However, looking long-term, Nowitzki delivered some potentially good news.According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas, Nowitzki would like to continue playing beyond his current contract.  That means, at minimum, he would like to still be playing - and playing for the Mavericks I should add - in the 2015-16 season. "I'm hoping maybe after these two years to play a couple more years," Nowitzki said, "so it would be the wrong thing now to push it and come back too early and maybe make something worse for the long term."Nowitzki was dealing with knee pain through much of the preseason and ultimately had to undergo arthroscopic surgery.  While he was not expected to miss much time, the knee has not responded as well to rehab as expected.  Now, Nowitzki will have to wait until at lead mid-December to rejoin the team. In his career, Nowitzki has averaged 22.9 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game.  He is a 12-time All-Star.  This may be his first season since 2000-01 in which he doesn't make the All-Star team.  Of course, if he doesn't it will be because of the time he has missed.  Nowitzki has been remarkably durable in his career.  This is his first major injury. Mavericks Injury News: Dirk Nowitzki Eyeing Mid-December Return

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki told reporters, including Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News, that he will be sidelined for at least another three weeks as he continues to recover from knee surgery.“Well, unfortunately not as soon as we all hoped, I think,” Nowitzki said when asked when he might return to the court. “I think originally when the last statement we...

New Face Off Against Old in Dallas

In Dallas on Friday night, it would’ve been a fair argument for some Dallas Mavericks fans to say they recognized more faces on the opposing team than they did on the Mavs. After a second consecutive offseason overhaul, Dirk Nowitzki currently sidelined after knee surgery, and Shawn Marion remaining as the only key player from [...]

Murphy leaves 1st Mavs start because of illness

Mavericks forward Troy Murphy is out of his first start of the season. Murphy made his first start in 11 games since joining Dallas in Wednesday night's game against the New York Knicks. He played nearly 18 minutes, but didn't return after halftime because of an upper respiratory illness. Murphy was 0-for-3 shooting, all on 3-pointers and made both of his free throws. He...

Will Cuban and Kidd ever get back together?

DALLAS Michael Finley once told me that loyalty is not about how you're treated by a team while you're playing. It's about how you're treated when you're done playing. Judging by the frost coming from Mark Cuban, don't expect the Jason Kidd and Dallas Mavericks to make up anytime soon. The emotions are still too raw at the upper end of the Mavericks organization...

Dirk out longer than originally thought

The Dallas Mavericks were hoping they’d get their franchise player back by early December, but it looks like Dirk Nowitzki is having some complications after knee surgery. The surgery was a month ago, and the Mavs and Dirk were hoping he’d be back on the court after six weeks, but after a few setbacks in the last couple weeks, he’s a little behind.  “I think...

Mayo, Carter lead Mavericks past Knicks

DALLAS -- O.J. Mayo and Vince Carter combined for 52 points as the Dallas Mavericks escaped with a 114-111 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night at American Airlines Center. New York (7-2) had a chance to pull out the win with a furious rally down the stretch, but Carmelo Anthony's jumper with less than five seconds left came up short. Mayo scored 27, with Carter...

Mavericks hand Knicks second loss

Vince Carter drove the baseline and leaped, his feet hovering over the end line, when he reached out with his right hand and made a reverse layup. That was part of Carter's 14 points in the fourth quarter for the Dallas Mavericks, after O.J. Mayo's go-ahead spurt to end the third, and it almost wasn't enough against the New York Knicks. Dallas held on for a 114-111...

Mayo scored 10 of 27 points over the final six minutes of the third quarter, when Dallas charged ahead, and the Mavericks held on for a 114-111 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. Mayo put Dallas ahead to stay with a 17-foot fadeaway jumper with 43 seconds left in the third quarter to break an 80-all tie. That was part of a 20-8 spurt to end...

Michael Finley Wants To Make a Comeback

Could Michael Finley still help an NBA team on the court?credit: bleacherreport.com Once one of the top shooters and scorers in the league, Michael Finley has spent the past few years as a member of the Dallas Mavericks organization in their front office. After 15 years in the league, Finley had a better run than most players can claim to have had. Apparently, he’s not content...
