WASHINGTON -- Forget playing at their previous championship winning level: The scuffling Dallas Mavericks entered the New Year simply in need of a victory. Thanks to a dunking Vince Carter, a shot-making Dirk Nowitzki -- and playing the owners of the NBA's worst record -- the wish came true. Carter scored 23 points and Nowitzki's offense keyed a 22-6 third quarter run as the Dallas Mavericks snapped a six-game losing streak with a 103-94 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night at the Verizon Center. During its losing skid, the Mavericks (13-19) lost by an average of 19.1 points and ended 2012 with 21- and 26-point defeats, leading coach Rick Carlisle to ponder suspensions as a motivator. Their first game in 2013 appeared headed in the same direction, though ultimately, no harsh measures were required. Down 14 points in the first half, the Mavericks made 14 of 21 shots in the third quarter, outscoring the Wizards 35-19 en route to their first win since Dec. 1...

Mavericks lose in OT to Miami Heat 119-109

Despite all the heroics we have come to expect from Dirk Nowitzki, the one-legged fade-away shot, the top of the key three pointers, the free throw shots we know will barely brush the net, all that combined could not prevent the Dallas Mavericks from going into an overtime game and eventually losing to the Miami Heat. I don’t watch the games live anymore, it’s kind of one of...

Vince Carter throws down monster dunk on Washington Wizards (Video)

On the first day of 2013, it looks like that Dallas Mavericks forward Vince Carter might gotten in time machine and channeled some of his past Vinsanity.Check out this high-flying two handed jam that he throws down on Washington Wizards forward Martell Webster:

Vince Carter Dunks on Kawhi Leonard

Vince Carter one of the best all time dunkers in NBA history prove he still has something left in the tank with his highlight dunk the other night. The Mavericks got destroyed by the Spurs but the play of the night went to Carter, who dunked on Kawhi Leonard. I think Carter should do 1 more NBA dunk contest before he retires. Dirk, Mavs drum up Finals memories for Heat

MIAMI -- The Heat figured this one might be different. After all, suiting up again for the Dallas Mavericks was none other than longtime Miami nemesis Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki, recovering from knee surgery, was out two weeks ago when the Heat won easily 110-95 at Dallas. But he was on hand Wednesday at AmericanAirlines Arena, coming off the bench and playing his sixth game of the...

Nowitzki Nearing Full Strength In Fifth Game Back

Dirk Nowitzki went 5-for-7 from the floor to score a season-high 11 points in 17 minutes.

Vince Carter Dunks On Kawhi Leonard

Back in the day, nobody in the NBA could claim to be a better dunker than Vince Carter. He’s certainly lost a few steps over the years, and is now a role player for the struggling Dallas Mavericks. Once in a while, he’ll still show us a flash of his old self. That’s exactly what we got here, when he dunked on the Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard. You can watch the clip below: Remember...

POTD(s) 12/30 & 12/31: Vince Carter and DeQuan Jones

Happy New Year, loyal readers!  On the first day of 2013, I present to you the final POTDs of 2012.  Let us begin with Vince Carter, who turns 36 years old in a couple of weeks.  You’d never know it by the looks of this jam… I was never a fan of VC’s motorcycle celebration, but over the past few seasons I think I’ve come to like it.  These days, I appreciate a Half Man...

When the Wizards, who are now 4-25, took a 14-point lead early in the second quarter, Dallas, which had arrived in Washington in the midst of its longest skid in nearly 14 years...

Mavericks-Wizards Preview

The Dallas Mavericks already got their marquee player back from injury, while the Washington Wizards continue to anxiously await the return of theirs. But both teams continue to struggle heading into Tuesday night's game at Washington. Time to now buy the Mayo

Fantasy basketball is such a fluid, funny game. One day you’re a sell high candidate and the next you’re a buy low guy. Let’s take a look at the most recent example of this phenomena, O.J. Mayo. Over his last 5, O.J. is averaging 33.6 mpg/8.8 ppg/2.2 rpg/4 apg/.6 3pm/2.2 spg/.321 FG/.636 FT. Pretty putrid numbers if you ask me and not very becoming! As if! Did everyone and...
