The Sports Rocker:
In you missed it last night, the Lakers played the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. In case you missed it last night, Carmello Anthony put on a shooting display until leaving with a minor injury in the third quarter. The Lakers looked old, slow, and like they didn't care. The Lakers lost by only nine, but were trailing by 19 at halftime. The Lakers aren't built to run a D'Antoni offense. You know, the kind designed to get out on fast breaks, and score 100+ points per. Right now, the Lakers aren't built to run much of anything. The Lakers are missing Pau Gasol and Steve Nash, who are both nursing injuries. And with Gasol having tendinitis in both knees, there is no guarantee that he could actually play significant time without missing games here and there. Dwight Howard is still not 100% after coming off back surgery to repair a herniated disc, and probably won't until much later this season if at all. Nash has yet to return from a broken fibula suffered early in the season. And to top it all off, Kobe Bryant played through back spams in last nights game. That doesn't sound like a basketball team. That sounds like a hospital waiting room. "Let's see, trade Duhon and Jamison for these guys...." Since taking over for the fired Mike Brown, the Lakers are 4-9 under D'Antoni. I don't think that's what Lakers GM Mitch Kupchack and owner Jerry Buss had in mind when they made that change. Not to lay all the blame on the coaches, but Kupchack has done a terrible job of surrounding Bryant with young talent. Note the word, "talent." Antawn Jamison (36 years old) started at the power forward slot last night, taking over for Jordan Hill, who had been starting in Gasol's absense. Hill is averaging under six points and six rebounds. Jamison's 7.8 points per game is the lowest of his career. Howard's backup is Robert Sacre. Don't feel bad for saying "who?" The Gonzaga product isn't even getting a point or rebound per game. And that's just the beginning. The Lakers bench is full of players you've never heard of.For now, D'Antoni will get the benefit of the doubt. But without some signs of improvement going forward, and a bad start next season, he'll be shown the door. Or Kobe gives him the death stare before then.

The Lakers have struggled this season and are looking to turn things around. Kobe believes Metta World Peace can help lead the way.

WASHINGTON Pau Gasol apparently knows the NFL injury-report guidelines pretty well.
Using the standard created for pro football players, the Lakers forward declared himself doubtful for Sunday's game against Philadelphia, questionable for next Tuesday against Charlotte and probable for Dec. 22 against Golden State.
It looks like at least another week before he returns from...
The Los Angeles Lakers are no stranger to scrutiny, but the scrutiny they have been under the last few weeks is high even for them. What seemed to be a run of bad luck with injuries and close losses exploded on Tuesday night when they went into Cleveland and got beat down by Kyrie Irving, Anderson Varejao…and little else. Their defense, analysts agree, seems to be their biggest...
The Lakers want to give Pau Gasol an opportunity to work within Mike D'Antoni's system when he returns from knee tendinitis.
LOS ANGELES For weeks now, I've been trying to figure out why the Lakers have been playing such lousy basketball. I've had about as much success coming up with answers as has Mike D'Antoni. The team has moments of good execution and great effort, but not nearly enough to compensate for the hours of horrible basketball they've turned in this season.

Mike D'Antoni never built the team he wanted in New York. Now he looks at the Knicks and sees what he would like his Lakers to become.
D'Antoni returns to Madison Square Garden on Thursday for the first time since resigning as Knicks coach last March, hoping to see the type of performance his new team hasn't demonstrated nearly enough.

The Los Angeles Lakers are struggling mightily. They have lost eight of their last 11 games and look to be getting worse by the day — particularly on defense late in games. Pau Gasol has been sidelined with a knee injury and has missed the last five games. Four of those have been losses, and Magic Johnson believes the absence of Gasol has been a major factor. “Gasol, to me, is...
Pau Gasol could return from knee tendinitis on Dec. 22.
AP Photo/Alex BrandonThe Lakers finally got off the schneid Friday night in Washington as they defeated the Wizards 102 – 96, improving their record to 10 – 14. This game highlighted this Laker team’s inconsistency as they let multiple leads slip and had to keep their stars in the game until the game clock hit triple zeroes. There wasn’t much of an improvement defensively...
Dear Laker and Laker Fans,
Thank you for this season, really it has been too easy.
When you guys first traded for Dwight Howard I was so mad, I thought the league was rigged and I thought Kobe would get his 6th championship and tie MJ. I was pissed Orlando didn't want Pau Gasol in the deal. I was 100 percent sure Phil Jackson was going to coach you guys and win another championship...
