Found October 21, 2013 on Sports Report SoCal:
Mike D’Antoni was not well liked by Los Angeles Lakers fans from the beginning simply because it stopped the legendary zen-master from returning to his throne.  Phil Jackson arguably would have been better suited to deal with Dwight Howard but D’Antoni was given the job and he didn’t do much to change the fans minds.  The coach finished 40-32 and the team severely underperformed with such an all-star cast barely making the playoffs finishing 7th in the West Coast.  The late playoff push also notably cost the Lakers their superstar as Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles tendon after 78 games of heavy playing time and little rest.  Although injury setbacks hurt the Lakers last season, that excuse may not work twice in Los Angeles. If the Lakers don’t make the playoffs, it may not be the end of D’Antoni, but it depends how the team looks during the season.  The point of this season is to get Kobe back healthy and strong, and to find some long term solutions for swing men and defense.  If Nick Young, Xavier Henry, Wesley Johnson, Elias Harris, Ryan Kelly, Marcus Landry, Shawne Williams or other returning players can have a breakout season they may guarantee themselves a spot on what will be a revamped line up in 2014.  The Lakers need youth and now that they have it, this season will serve as a big test for D’Antoni as to whether he can mold these young shooters into potential stars. But if D’Antoni has an embarrassing season and makes Kobe Bryant look bad in any way, don’t be surprised to see a new coach in LA.  If that happens possibly bringing back Phil Jackson could entice any other big-name star to come to the city of angels and make the Lakers a title contender again.  If they couldn’t get Jackson they could try to convince Future Hall of fame coach George Karl to try and come win his first championship with the Lakers. D’Antoni may have front office support as of now, but that has been known to change quickly and he may not be safe as long as he may think.  Just ask Mike Brown.

VIDEO: Chinese fan screams and freaks out when Kobe signs his jersey

How would you react if Kobe Bryant signed your jersey? It would be pretty cool, right? It seems it was a dream come true for this Chinese fan when the Black Mamba signed his Lakers jersey last week. The fan was situated away from Kobe in the crowd, yet luckily for him, Bryant somehow got hold of the jersey – along with a Sharpie pen – and threw it back to the screaming man after...

D'Antoni more realistic with Lakers offense

When Mike D'Antoni became the Lakers' coach last season, he wanted them to be a fast-paced team that scored around 110 points a game. Then reality set in. With their aging roster, the Lakers averaged 102.2 points. "i was on drugs back then," D'Antoni said with a laugh after Monday's practice. "My knee was hurting, Vicodin was killing me." This...

Lakers News: Nick Young says Clippers covering Lakers’ banners and retired jerseys is “disrespectful”

Nick Young Is Upset With The Clippers For Playing At The Same Arena

As you might already know, the LA Lakers and LA Clippers are the only two teams in the NBA that play at the same arena – Staples Center (for obvious reasons). Makes sense, right? When the Lakers and Clippers play each other, it is an un-official home game for both teams. Nick Young, who played for the Clippers last season, plays for the Lakers this season. He is upset because the...

Doc say's no disrespect towards Lakers with banners being covered

I understand Doc on this, but I also think if this was a few years ago that non of this would have been possible. The Clippers are the hot team, and the city, and the arena owners are running with it. Doc won't come out and say it, but it is a small jab at the Lakers. I don't mind him wanting to cover up those hiatus yellow, and purple eye sores. ESPN LA "The culture...

Sunday NBA Preseason Notes

Nikola Vucevic was held out of Sunday’s game with elbow soreness, which he’s been dealing with for the last few days. For now, it doesn’t look like a concern, and he has a good shot to play Tuesday at San Antonio. It doesn’t affect his fantasy value at the moment, and he’s still one of the top options at center. Steve Nash and Chris Kaman are both dealing with a similar illness...
