This week, the Brooklyn Nets signed Alan Anderson, a journeyman guard/forward who has spent half of his pro career bouncing around various European leagues. His contract is a paltry $947,907, but because it nudges their total payroll to $30,463,009 over the tax threshold, owner Mikhail Prokhorov is now stuck with a tax bill of $87,199,293 — down from the previous (and, in hindsight, only-slightly-less-absurd) $82,939,184. While Anderson likely isn’t the key ingredient to a potential deep playoff run, with all the money Prok is tossing around, the Nets had better at least get past the first round this year. Brooklyn Nets’ Luxury Tax Bill set to Be $87 Million

I keep saying it and I will say it again. One of the most underrated things in sports is having an owner willing to spend whatever is necessary to win a championship. After the moves the Brooklyn Nets pulled off this summer, I would say owner Mikhail Prokhorov certainly falls into that category. After adding Alan Anderson for the league minimum, the Nets are scheduled to have a team...

Kirilenko: 'Time to take a shot to win a title'

Andrei Kirilenko took a $7 million pay cut when he opted out of a deal with the Timberwolves to play for the Brooklyn Nets and Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov. League followers immediately speculated that Prokhorov worked some sort of deal on the side with the Russian star to convince him to come to Brooklyn. Kirilenko says he can't control the rumor mill. He says the reason...

Andrei Kirilenko Says He Chose The Brooklyn Nets To Win A Title

When 32-year-old Andrei Kirilenko opted out of a $10.2 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, many assumed it was so he could put himself in position to earn one more large contract. Kirilenko, in fact had other goals and intentions, and signed a two-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets because he wanted to win. Amid speculation he joined the Nets because of some backroom...

Nets tax bill could be $87 million for next season

The largely free market loving Republican owners of the NBA teams pushed hard in the last Collective Bargaining Agreement for something that you would think goes against their nature — an increased and very stiff tax structure that sets up a more socialist system. (They would argue the system is needed for the growth of the overall sport.) But the tax penalty only works if an...

D.J. White on NBA future: ‘I’ve got a couple options’

INDIANAPOLIS — D.J. White was in a good professional situation last year. While he didn’t get nearly as much playing time as he did in Charlotte, White got a chance to learn under veteran forward Kevin Garnett with the Celtics. The former Indiana forward was sent to the Nets with Garnett and Paul Pierce in [...]The post D.J. White on NBA future: ‘I’ve got a couple options’...

AK-47 Says Nets Are “The Best Option Possible”

Is there anything more frustrating in life, then when you do something for all the right reasons and them some "FRICKIN PUD" questions your motives? As far as Your Old Pal New York Vinnie is concerned, there are not too many things that make my blood boil quicker than that. However New York Vinnie has been around long enough to realize that what ever you do, there is...

Kirilenko: Saunders 'Decided Not To Re-Sign Me For A Long Time'

Andrei Kirilenko wanted to sign a long-term contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he ended up signing a smaller deal with the Brooklyn Nets. Kirilenko believes Flip Saunders had already decided not to re-sign him for most of the offseason. "He decided not to sign me for a long time," Kirilenko said. "I can’t do anything about that. "I opted out not because...

Jason Kidd might use “The Matrix” as inspiration for the Brooklyn Nets

Before coming across this quote, I didn’t think that Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd was a huge fan of classic sci-fi flick, “The Matrix” but apparently, the story of Neo really settled with the new head man in Brooklyn. Recently, Kidd attended a special New York City screening of the new movie Matt Damon movie, “Elysium” and the fine folks over at The Source caught...

Jason Kidd is using Movies like “Matrix”, “Elysium” to Motivate Brooklyn

First time head coach Jason Kidd was invited to a special movie screening. Kidd was at the New York premiere of the new Matt Damon/Jodie Foster film “Elysium”. The Source asked Kidd about movies and he spoke about how they could be beneficial to his team. Jason Kidd: I’m a big fan of the “Matrix.” I thought that was a classic, it kind of gave us something of what the future...
