Milwaukee Bucks Reportedly Release A Player
USA TODAY Sports

Alex Antetokounmpo is coming off a year where he played in the G League for the Wisconsin Herd.

In 32 regular season games, Antetokounmpo averaged 5.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 37.2% from the field (he also appeared in 14 Showcase Cup games).

On Friday, Michael Scotto HoopsHype reported that the Milwaukee Bucks had signed the 22-year-old.

Following the news of the signing, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reported that Antetokounmpo had been waived.

Via Nehm: "Per a league source, the Bucks have signed and waived Alex Antetokounmpo.

They did this with him last offseason as well. It allows the Bucks to retain his G-League rights and makes Antetokounmpo eligible for a bonus worth up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with the Herd."

Antetokounmpo has two brothers who play for the Bucks (Thanasis and Giannis).

Giannis is a two-time MVP and led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA Championship, while Thanasis was the 51st pick in the 2014 Draft and has spent part of five seasons in the league.

However, Alex has yet to play in an NBA game since going undrafted in 2021.

His career averages in the G League are 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 38.9% from the field and 27.0% from the three-point range in 47 regular season games (he has also appeared in 22 Showcase Cup games).

Since Alex is still so young, he could be a good candidate to land a ten-day contract (or a two-way deal) over the next few seasons.
