Minnesota Timberwolves: Rudy Gobert Makes Aggressive Stance on Referee After Questionable Game 4 Call
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves had everything on their hands when it came to quickly finishing off thee Denver Nuggets. They came into their home games with a 2-0 lead, and they knew that letting a team like the Nuggets back into the series would only cause more problems for them later on.

While the team did everything they could to keep the series in their favor, the Nuggets eventually wrestled back the momentum. The series is now headed back to Mile High City with an even 2-2, and not even the most avid Timberwolves fan would be bullish about their chances this time. While Anthony Edwards is giddy about the situation, the same can’t be said about the rest of the squad.

Fans can point to multiple reasons why thee Timberwolves squandered such a lead. Some could blame the lack of productivity from Karl-Anthony Towns as the main proponent for their struggles. Others can also point to the Nuggets getting their mojo back after being swept on their home floor.

However, most irate fans would likely agree with how Rudy Gobert sees the game.

Rudy Gobert alludes to game-fixing during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Game 4 loss to Denver

Gobert didn’t have a particularly bad game if you look at his performance from a statistical standpoint. He had 11 points, 14 rebounds, one assist, and one block to his name. However, such an effort is unacceptable if you’re trying to establish a clear series lead.

As the game was looking progressively dire for the Timberwolves, Gobert made a gesture that was directed towards the officials, as reported by the Star Tribune:

With 4:10 to play in the Wolves’ 115-107 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night at Target Center, Karl-Anthony Towns missed a three-point try. Gobert grabbed the rebound, but he was called for an offensive foul by Foster — after getting called for another offensive foul by Foster on the Wolves’ previous possession.

This hasn’t been the first time Gobert made such scathing allegations against officiating during a March game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he got fined a whopping $100,000 for his gestures and comments about the officiating team.

It wouldn’t be surprising for him to get such a fine again if the league finds his actions offensive. However, he and the rest of the Minnesota Timberwolves must get their act together if they want to advance to beat the Nuggets.
