Minnesota Timberwolves Star Gets Back-Handed Compliment After 4-Game Dominance vs Phoenix
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Rudy Gobert has plenty of reasons to celebrate recently. Not only did the Minnesota Timberwolves take down the Phoenix Suns, but he had a key role in helping his team sweep a team that was supposed to take them down due to the star power they have.

It’s a great feeling for Gobert since he’s been at the receiving end of harsh criticisms lately. The fact that the narrative is turning around for the Stifle Tower is a great sign for him and his team’s chances at winning the Larry O’Brien trophy.

However, it seems like the Frenchman couldn’t take a break. One of his fiercest rivals acknowledges the impact he’s made on the Timberwolves, but he did it in a way that would leave a nasty aftertaste in his mouth.

Draymond Green praises Rudy Gobert’s defensive effort for the Minnesota Timberwolves vs Phoenix

Draymond Green has shared plenty of moments with Gobert. Since he started his NBA journey with the Utah Jazz, the two have had plenty of opportunities to meet in the regular season and the playoffs.

However, most fans would remember the altercation the two were involved with in the in-season tournament more recently. Green had Gobert in a chokehold as tensions boiled over on the court.

Ubong Archibong of FirstSportz detailed what Draymond thought of Gobert’s performance during the sweep on the Draymond Green Show, which was layered on thick with mean-spirited compliments from him:

Rudy actually not trash anymore. He defends now. And ironically, when you see him on the switches, he’s up at the level, he not just sitting back and a drop no more. When he gets switched on to the guy, it’s like his antennas pop on. He is actually impacting winning, and he’s actually doing that on the defensive end.

While Green may have meant something else with his words, it’s undeniable that Rudy Gobert has been a great asset for the Timberwolves. He’s been a force down low, averaging 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.8 blocks.

If Gobert manages to produce the same kind of numbers in the next round, it wouldn’t be strange to expect the Timberwolves to make an unlikely run to the Western Conference Finals.
