Dwight Howard certainly isn’t making his shoulder injury any better by playing, but the Los Angeles Lakers cannot afford to be missing key players as they fight for their playoff lives. Playing basketball with a torn labrum has to be painful, and Howard insists his opponents have been making it more uncomfortable by targeting his right shoulder and trying to make it worse.

After the Lakers loss to the Miami Heat on Sunday, Howard told Eric Adelson of Yahoo! Sports that the Heat were grabbing at his injured arm early in the game.

“They got me early,” he said. “They would yank it back.”

Howard said some of the Charlotte Bobcats players did the same thing on Friday.

“It’s like a jolt,” he explained. “Then it hurts the rest of the night.”

There’s no way of knowing if players are actually targeting Howard’s arm. If they are, he just informed them all that it is working and affecting his game. The video above shows Howard and Udonis Haslem fighting for position on L.A.’s first possession of the game on Sunday. If you’re looking for it, I guess you can see Haslem yanking at Howard’s arm in some capacity. However, the play looked like nothing more than a standard struggle in the post.

Later in the game, Mario Chalmers pulled down Howard’s right arm and fouled him as he was going to the hoop. While it was obvious Chalmers intentionally pulled the arm, it was the type of foul we see on a regular basis when a guard is trying to prevent a much bigger player from having an easy bucket.

Howard recently said that he is tired of hearing about the shoulder from his critics and even teammates. Complaining that opponents are targeting the injury is only going to make people discuss it more. Dwight is obviously in a lot of pain and his play is suffering as a result, but the less he talks about it the better off he will be.

Dwight Howard’s Inherent Flaws Prove Troublesome

Dwight Howard has some type of inherent flaw. I won’t pretend to be an avid NBA fan. When the big games are on, I watch and enjoy. I soak in a player’s greatness and watch him flourish. During the playoffs, I make a conscious effort to catch the contests at hand. I don’t dislike the [...]The post Dwight Howard’s Inherent Flaws Prove Troublesome appeared first on The Sports Fan Journal.

Trade Rumors Heating Up For Mavericks, Hawks

The Dallas Mavericks and the Atlanta Hawks are both going in interesting directions at the moment. Stars on both teams are clearly on the trading block right now, and with the...

Dwight Howard’s Father Believes a Meeting Between His Son, Kobe Bryant, Mike D’Antoni Is Needed

The Los Angeles Lakers have had their fair share of issues this season. Former Lakers head coach Brown, knew D’Antoni was in trouble

Former L.A. Lakers head coach Mike Brown is one of the nicest guys in the NBA, however, that doesn’t always translate to much. Cowherd asked what his feelings were when released or fired and Brown responded with “I was shocked.” Only a few games into the season one...

Preview: Lakers vs. Suns

The Lakers (24-28) return home after finishing a 4-3 effort in their longest road trip of the season. That road trip started in a shocking 92-86 loss to the Phoenix Suns (17-35), a team that was and still at the bottom of the Western Conference. Needless to say, the purple and gold are looking for some payback tonight. The last 10 days away from Los Angeles didn't go through...

Lakers Unable to Close Against Heat

Photo courtesy of Mike Ehrmann, Getty Images Here’s a line you haven’t read this season: The Lakers could have won it. Okay fine, we’ve actually said that before…a lot, because goodness knows the Lakers have come close to winning a lot of games this past season but have always found a way to falter in the end. If we re-watch those 28 losses, I guarantee at least half of them...
