The Brooklyn Nets are off to a terrible start this season under first year coach, Jason Kidd. But that hardly tells the story as fellow NBA observers are noticing the lack of coaching done by Kidd. It probably wasn’t a great idea by general manager Billy King to bring in a rookie head coach with zero experience to operate a veteran-laden team ready to compete for a NBA championship this season. At any rate, one NBA scout has taken notice of Jason Kidd during games and has come to the conclusion that Kidd’s comportment is “terrible” and he doesn’t do anything during games including calling plays.

Via Howard Beck/Bleacher Report:

A veteran scout, interviewed earlier in the day and speaking on the condition of anonymity, called Kidd’s bench comportment “terrible,” observing that the play-calling has fallen mostly to his top assistants, Lawrence Frank and John Welch.

“He doesn’t do anything,” said the scout, who has watched the Nets several times. “He doesn’t make calls. John Welch does all the offense. Lawrence does all the defense. … I don’t know what Kidd does. I don’t think you can grade him and say he’s bad. You can give him an incomplete.”

The same scout said he had counted only 15 plays run by the Nets in the games he has watched. Multiple observers have noted that the Nets offense lacks any discernible flow, as if the stars are all simply taking turns with the ball.

Of course it’s very early and nobody should be judged off a handful of games, but Kidd does look completely over his head at this level of coaching. In addition, last week ESPN’s David Thorpe said that Kidd “the worst coach in the NBA.” For J-Kidd’s sake, the Nets better turn this around quickly or this will only pile on more.

Jason Kidd seems way in over his head

After Brooklyn’s 108-98 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers last night, Nets coach Jason Kidd had a look on his face of complete and utter disgrace and confusion all in one. It was a mixture of sorrow, disappointment, perplexity, and anxiety all at once. After a disappointing beginning to the season starting out 3-7, the superstar lineup of the Brooklyn Nets looks like it’s shaping...

Nets coach Jason Kidd takes blame for loss to Blazers

For someone who never appears flustered in public, who speaks with a knowing smile, Jason Kidd looked uncharacteristically adrift on Monday night following the Nets’ disappointing 108-98 loss to the surging Portland Trail Blazers in Brooklyn. Sitting on the dais, his tie loosened and slightly askew, Kidd spoke haltingly, seemingly searching for answers as to why a team with high...

NBA scout says Jason Kidd doesn’t coach

I’ve never been a fan of the Brooklyn Nets hiring of Jason Kidd. Especially once the Nets acquired Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. A rookie head coach with NO assistant coaching experience, saddle with a team with no clear identity. Just seemed like a recipe for disaster. But, I was cool with taking a wait and see approach. Two weeks into the season an anonymous NBA scout has said...

Scout: Jason Kidd Doesn't Do Anything As Head Coach During Games

The Brooklyn Nets have had a slow start to the 13-14 season, which is leaving some to blame first-year head coach Jason Kidd. “Just bad coaching,” Kidd said after the Nets' loss on Monday to the Portland Trail Blazers. “I take the blame for this.” A veteran scout described Kidd's comportment on the bench as "terrible." Lawrence Frank and John Welch are taking...

Kidd: Nets G Deron Williams will play vs. Bobcats

Nets coach Jason Kidd says veteran point guard Deron Williams will play Wednesday night against the Charlotte Bobcats. Williams has missed the past two games with a sprained ankle. Kidd says ''it will be good to get him going.'' The Nets won't go straight to Williams, but Kidd says they'll ''let him get his energy back and let him get up and down...

Nets: Kidd not to blame for us stinking

After an underachieving start, the Nets used all kinds of adjectives to describe the mood around the team, and none of them were good. Paul Pierce went with angry, Kevin Garnett said dismal and even the normally taciturn Brook Lopez admitted they were disappointed in themselves. The Nets (3-7) arguably are the biggest disappointment in the NBA, having dropped five of six, including...

Is Jason Kidd already on the hot seat in Brooklyn?

As Deron Williams returns to the starting lineup tonight for the Brooklyn Nets against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday after missing the last two games with a sprained ankle, he hopes to be the spark to ignite the team’s fire this season after sluggish start to the season that has been plagued with injuries. Brook Lopez could be a step closer to reclaiming his starting role...

NBA Scout on Jason Kidd: He Doesn’t Do Anything

I said it when the move was first announced and it was the biggest reason why I was so hesitant to call the Nets an automatic threat to the Miami Heat out east. Jason Kidd had never coached a game before at any level and he was going to be the guy who led this […]

Jason Kidd's Competence Quickly Becoming Nets' Biggest Question Mark

In an audacious offseason of binge-spending and headline-grabbing, the boldest, riskiest move the Brooklyn Nets made was the one that started it all. On June 12, the Nets hired Jason Kidd—just days removed from his retirement as a point guard—as their head coach, in the belief that his Hall of Fame basketball mind would be just as effective on the bench as it was on the court...

NBA scout on Jason Kidd’s coaching: ‘He doesn’t do anything’

Following a 3-7 start, Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd has been blasted for not doing anything in his job description by an NBA scout.

Kevin Garnett is Not Being Used Properly So Far by Jason Kidd

The $190 million Brooklyn Nets are off to a rough start. They are 3-8, and general manager Billy King and owner Mikhail Prokhorov’s plan to mortgage the team’s future – draft picks and cap space – in an effort to win now – this year – looks like a total failure. While they’ve beaten the Heat – by one point on November 1st in a game the Nets controlled – and blown...

Walsh, Thorn Defend Jason Kidd Against Early Criticism

Donnie Walsh and Rod Thorn defended Jason Kidd against anonymous comments made by an NBA scout suggesting that the first-year head coach of the Brooklyn Nets "doesn't do anything." "I think he'll be a great coach, but you can't judge him on the first 10 games," said Walsh. "He knows basketball, he gets instant respect from players because of who...

This Video Perfectly Sums Up The 2013-14 Brooklyn Nets (So Far)

This year’s version of the Brooklyn Nets is costing Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov roughly 8 kajillion dollars in luxury tax penalties, and what has it gotten him? A 3-7 record, Kevin Garnett’s corpse, and Jason Kidd — which is really just a fancy name for “Lawrence Frank’s Puppet”. In the final minute of an embarrassing home loss to the (surprisingly 9-2) Portland Trailblazers...

Jason Kidd, Mike Woodson Among NBA Coaches Feeling Early-Season Heat

It’s rare but hardly unprecedented for a struggling NBA team to fire its head coach less than a month into a season. Just look at last year, when the Lakers canned Mike Brown with the team off to a 1-4 start. As it turned out, Brown really wasn’t the problem, and he landed on his feet back in Cleveland this offseason. So, it’s never too early to ponder which coach might be...

Brooklyn Nets Hold Players-Only Meeting After Loss vs. Blazers

I had my questions coming into the season about the Brooklyn Nets and just how all of this would mesh together. No, not necessarily about the players themselves. The talent on the court speaks for itself and there are numerous all-stars appearances in the Nets starting lineup when they are fully healthy. No, I more so had questions about the head coach Jason Kidd. It just bothered...

credit: NY Daily News A few NBA players have been suspended this season for marijuana use, namely J.R. Smith and Larry Sanders. The idea has caught a bit of wind in the NFL, a...
