Washington Wizards fans can tell you that watching JaVale McGee on a nightly basis can be incredibly frustrating. The 25-year-old center has amazing potential, but he makes far too many bone-headed mistakes like this that cost his team. Now, he is a Denver Nugget. And from the sound of it, George Karl is already frustrated with his big man.

“He’s got to understand that lazy and crazy isn’t going to make it work,” Karl told the Denver Post. “We want solid and we want fundamental, and we want spectacular but only when it happens, not forcing the action where sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t.”

McGee is a lot of things, but solid and fundamental aren’t two of them. Denver signed him to a generous four-year, $44 million deal last year and at the moment he is coming off the bench. As highlight-reel blocks like this remind us, McGee is one of the most athletic seven-footers in the NBA. There’s a reason Hakeem Olajuwon said JaVale should be dominating the NBA.

But, he’s not. Instead, McGee rotates between SportsCenter’s “Top 10″ and “Not Top 10.” He’s averaging around 10 points per game this season, which is consistent with where he has been for most of his career. McGee could be considered a major underachiever given his skill level, or he could just not have the intangibles a player needs to dominate the NBA as a big man and a post presence. The more games that go by, the more likely it is that the latter is true.

  • Heck, the whole NBA is "LAZY and CRAZY" Get used to it coach Karl. As a past NBA/Nuggets fan I would suggest Coach Karl retire and take care of himself sence he recently beat cancer again. The NBA (Nothing But A...Holez)is not worth the effort anymore. It is run by the players.
  • AHHHMen!
  • I rarely watch NBA games anymore. My hometown team 76ers are hard to watch like mostly all teams are. I watch Okla. City.& Miami when they're on and even they don't do it for me. I love college basketball and there's always a game on. Even div.2. The NBA players should get paid depending how good they play or how bad. These OVERPAID PRIMA-DONNA'S ONLY CARE ABOUT GETTING PAID."I's gonna git mine dawg", ya na mean, ya nam sayin', feel me".
  • NBA should try merit pay for a while. $44 big'uns out the window and who pays for it??....the fan!
  • his mother should be ashamed for him she was great

Jordan Crawford hits 'dagger of the year'

Those Washington Wizards fans who stayed up for this late night game vs the Portland Trailblazers surely feel like this one was worth it. In fact, the way the Wizards are playing lately, they almost seem like a must watch team. In a game that went back and forth and had the makings of a typical let down, including Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews raining 3′s to get Portland back...

The Bradley Beal and Jordan Crawford Dilemma

Credit: Bob Youngentob CSN Washington   January has been a crazy month for the Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal and Jordan Crawford. In the first month of this year, both have hit game winners for the Wizards — Beal on January 7th vs. the Thunder and most recently Crawford on January 21st vs. the Blazers. So while these two have both contributed to Washington’s January success...

Is The Wizards Winning A Bad Thing?

Wednesday Wizards Report   Happy Hump Day Wiz fans! So far on our current 5 game road trip the Wiz are 2-2 and end out the trip in Utah tonight as they take on the Jazz at 9:00pm eastern time.  Washington is 4-2 since John Wall returned to the line-up and 5-2 in our last seven. This Wizards team has a different swagger about them since Wall has returned and it is surely the most...

Crawford lifts Wizards over Blazers

Jordan Crawford hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and the Washington Wizards dogpiled on the court to celebrate a 98-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night. Crawford's fadeaway and a corner 3-pointer gave the Wizards...

George Karl On JaVale McGee: Lazy And Crazy Isn’t Going To Make It Work

Denver Nuggets forward JaVale McGee is the epitome of an enigma.  So much raw talent and potential as a basketball player, yet the brain and skills aren’t meshing. For every athletic and gifted play he makes, a bone headed decision follows.  The Nuggets and head coach George Karl are displaying a ton of patience with him, but as Karl told the Denver Post. “He’s got to understand...

Dunk of the night: Damian Lillard puts the Wizards on a poster

Take that "Witcha"

Wizards 98, Trail Blazers 95

PORTLAND - Jordan Crawford's fadeaway 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Washington Wizards a 98-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Monday night at the Rose Garden. It was the fifth win in seven games for the Wizards (9-30), who hold victories over Oklahoma City, Atlanta and Denver during that string. Nene and Martell Webster each scored 24 points for Washington. ...

Timberwolves-Wizards Preview

The Washington Wizards have found some stability since John Wall returned from injury. Getting Ricky Rubio back hasn't had that effect for the injury-plagued Minnesota Timberwolves. Back from their western swing, Wall and the Wizards will try to extend their season-high home winning streak to four on Friday night when the Timberwolves try to get on track with the first of two...

Jamal's Moment: The Misfortune of 'Party John'

I held onto hope for Peter John Ramos for an unreasonably long time. Ernie Grunfeld selected Ramos 32nd overall in the 2004 NBA draft, his first as President of Basketball Operations with the Washington Wizards.  Grunfeld had a relatively solid draft history prior to assuming his role with the Wizards, but one of his more noteworthy accomplishments was selecting Michael Redd...

Nuggets’ Karl wants McGee to be more ‘Duncan-like’

After a 24 point, 17 rebound, five assist night against the Philadelphia 76ers that drew raves from Charles Barkley and others, we wouldn’t be surprised if coaches were showing their young bigs Tim Duncan game tape as the 36-year-old San Antonio Spurs forward has been the picture of consistency all season and throughout his career. Not surprisingly, one NBA head coach is hoping...

Eli Manning says he likes Bud Light, 'N Sync in Reddit AMA

There’s an ongoing debate as to whether New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is an elite quarterback. What’s becoming harder and harder to argue, however, is that the younger Manning QB has a great sense of humor. The Giants signal-caller showcased his unique personality Friday afternoon when he took some time out of his presumably busy schedule to take some questions on Reddit...

HAMPTON, Ga. — Speaking quietly and with a trembling voice, NASCAR superstar Tony Stewart said Friday that the death of Kevin Ward Jr. will “affect my life forever” as he returned to the track for the first time since his car struck and killed the fellow driver during a sprint-car race in New York three weeks ago. “I’ve taken the last couple of weeks off out of respect...

Athletics play game under protest over controversial call

This is utterly ridiculous in every possible way. Umpire Greg Gibson may have even misunderstood the rules here in order to help the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday evening. A win that gave them a two-game lead in the division.  Without getting too much into MLB’s Oxford-sized rulebook, check out the video below. Your browser does not support...
