The Brooklyn Nets reached the postseason for the first time since the 2007 season after suffering through 3-straight seasons of under 25 wins, including a league worst 70 losses just four seasons ago. The season, by most standards, would be considered a success, and it happened with an interim coach in PJ Carlesimo. However, a loss in the first round in seven games to a Chicago Bulls team decimated by injuries was not good enough for Russian billionaire-owner Mikhail Prokhorov. Carlesimo was fired over the weekend, and GM Billy King has been given instructions to shoot high in the coaching search. Those names include legendary coach Phil Jackson, and former long-time Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, according to a report in the NY Post. Jackson has reportedly stated that he is ready to return to coaching, but is in the process of consulting with the Pistons for their head coach opening. Anyone would obviously love to land Jackson, but it often is reported that the only two landing spots in his future are the Lakers and the Knicks.
