Kobe Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, recently finalized the sale of one of her three Southern California mansions, TMZ reports. Kobe signed the couple’s three properties over to her wife when they were beginning divorce proceedings in late 2011. Vanessa listed the 6,000 square foot mansion on sale for $3.75 million in September. TMZ reports and a listing service confirms that the property officially sold for $3.22 million on Jan. 8. They say Vanessa’s mother was living in the mansion prior to the sale. The couple purchased the property for $2.65 million in 2003, so Vanessa enjoyed a healthy profit on the investment. According to a listing on Redfin.com, the property has five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. It is located in the Pelican Ridge Estate gated community in Newport Coast. In addition to selling one of her mansions, Vanessa, like her husband, has recently joined a social media service. A few months before Kobe joined Twitter, Vanessa joined Instagram. She used her platform to respond to rapper Drake, who criticized her in one of his songs. “I love when immature kids quote a rapper that has never been friends with Kobe and knows nothing about our relationship. Just shows how gullible they are,” Vanessa wrote on Instagram. “I don’t need to be in the gym. I’m raising our daughters, signing checks and taking care of everything else that pertains to our home life. “I really wish people would stop THINK and then realize that they are being sucked into someone’s clear intention to monetize and gain attention off of our family’s heartache. This is real life. I hold down our home life so my husband can focus on his career. It’s a partnership. “Since my husband is isn’t friends with Drake, we received a text of an apology forwarded from his manager. It’s done and over with and it’s now time for people to THINK before speaking.” Kobe and Vanessa were said to be working on a reconciliation last June. There have been no rumblings of Vanessa proceeding with the divorce she initiated and, based on what she’s written on Instagram, it seems like she is still dedicated to her husband. Blue Jays OF tears meniscus in freak sprinkler accident

It’s that time of the year again.   For some reason, MLB spring training brings about the strangest and most unfortunate injuries. And Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders was 2015’s first victim, tearing his left meniscus after stepping on a sprinkler head while shagging balls. Saunders said he felt a pop when it happened. “I just tried to walk...

Death threats show why some fans take sports too seriously

Once in a while I like to take a step back and remind myself and anyone listening that this world has a lot to offer. So many things can and should give inspire us — love, sex, money, food, travel, work, music, cinema, physical exercise, and of course sports. Some of us can’t get enough of all of that, some have other vices, some only one or two. But although work and sports...

Falcons release Steven Jackson

The hits keep coming for NFL running backs. A day after the Detroit Lions sent Reggie Bush packing, veteran running back Steven Jackson was released by the Atlanta Falcons. On the surface, this move is not surprising. Jackson, 31, put up 1,250 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons with the Falcons. The former Pro Bowler was set to count $4.92 million against the cap in 2015. By...

Bill Walton has some words of advice for Derrick Rose

If anyone can relate to what Derrick Rose is going through, it’s Bill Walton. Long before there was Rose, Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Brandon Roy, or any other promising NBA star whose career was derailed by injuries, there was Walton. Walton was a three-time college player of the year and led UCLA to two national...Read More

Five under-the-radar National Player of the Year candidates

While March and April are undoubtedly for the NCAA tournament, February has, at least in recent years, turned into the month for three things: bubble talk, 1-seed talk, and player of the year talk. This year, Wisconsin senior Frank Kaminsky and Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor have been running 1-2 for most of the season in the POY discussion, with Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell...

Judge overturns Peterson suspension; NFL to appeal

So much for this being a slow time of the year around the NFL. As has been the case over the past several months, off-field issues are making headlines around the league. Former Green Bay Packers’ tight end Brandon Bostick has taken severe heat since he botched an onside kick in the NFC Championship game this past January.
