The Dallas Mavericks have high hopes for landing big-time talent this summer, and most of this is expected to focus on pending free agent Dwight Howard. However, Mike Fisher DallasBasketball.com reports that the Mavericks have discussed point guard Rajon Rondo with the Boston Celtics. While the sides could have discussed a trade involving Rondo, it would get extremely complicated. Rondo could be used to lure Howard to Dallas, but it could get difficult to fit both superstars on the same team considering the Mavericks’ current salary situation, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. As http://t.co/RaBdzfDk2O says, Celts/Mavs talked some Rondo. Celtics like Larkin, but how do Mavs take contracts and keep space for Howard?— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 29, 2013 Mavs would love having Rajon Rondo to chase Dwight Howard, but Boston needs Dallas to take multiple contracts off its books, sources say.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 29, 2013The other option would be for the Mavericks to send Dirk Nowitzki to the Celtics. It’s hard to imagine Dallas doing this, considering his ties to the team and owner Mark Cuban. It wouldn’t seem like Boston would want an aging superstar as they enter rebuilding mode, but Nowitzki represents an expiring contract after the season. While you can’t rule anything out when the Celtics and Cuban are involved, this pairing doesn’t seem likely. Whatever the case, Dallas is likely to put Rondo talks on the backburner until the Howard situation is resolved.Follow @hoopsinjurynews
