It took the Washington Wizards one Summer League game to get into their groove. One night removed from being blown out of the Cox Pavilion gym by the Atlanta Hawks, the Wizards survived a furious 4th quarter comeback attempt by the Houston Rockets, winning their first game of the summer 76-70.

Top pick Bradley Beal lead the team with 14 points and was one of four Wizards to finish in double figures.

It took Chris Singleton about a quarter and a half to find some rhythm, but once he did, he was a force both offensively and on defense. He finished with 10 points.

Even Tomas Satoransky, you know, that other guy we drafted, got in on the action and rebounded pretty nicely from his first outing.  Satoransky wowed the crowd on more than one occasion with posterizing dunks, including a one-handed tomahawk jam over Houston’s top pick, Jeremy Lamb.

Despite the Wizards’ impressive performance, they struggled immensely at the free throw line, shooting an atrocious 53 percent from the stripe.

Buzzkill.

Back to the happy stuff – Jan Vesley continued to impress Wizards fans and even his own teammates, as his jump shot was noticeably more fluid. Vesely missed only 2 of his 6 shots from the field, one of them being a dunk..again.

Amongst the long-shots to make the squad, Garret Siler, who by the way is HUGE at 6’10 and 305 pounds, was very productive in the limited time he earned on the floor. A former standout at Augusta State, Siler is the NCAA’s all-time leader in field goal percentage, with a career average of 74 percent from the field. But of course you knew that. In 13 minutes tonight, Siler scored 6 points on 3 of 5 shooting. Let’s break out the 10-day contract…

The Wizards continue their stint tomorrow evening as they face the….drumroll….D-League Select Team.
