NBA Trade Deadline Fantasy Breakdown. The NBA trade deadline saw a series of mostly boring and irrelevant trades, but a few have potential fantasy impact.  Most interesting were the deals not made.  We won’t find out what Rajon Rondo would have done, motivated by returning late-season to a playoff team.  Kyle Lowry could have ended up in any one of a number of value-reducing situations.  Instead he will be pretty much who he has been so far this season, barring injury. So what matters? Steve Blake for salary cap relief – No-one in this trade is very interesting from a fantasy perspective.  Blake’s limited value is gone, but the trade sort of matters for owners of Kendall Marshall.  Marshall will continue to get minutes, regardless of Nash’s progress or anything other than a total cave-in in performance.  He is one of the few players with upside on a talent-thin team. Even coming out of college, Marshall was considered a three point shot away from averages like his current 10.7 points and 9.8 dimes. Blake is owned in 17 percent of Yahoo! leagues. Don’t expect many minutes behind Stephen Curry. Marshall is owned in 61 percent of Yahoo! leagues.   Spencer Hawes and a throw-in for Earl Clark and picks – Hawes minutes may decrease with the Cavs, but the usually-injured Anderson Varejao is the only other serviceable Center on the roster.  Hawes may still be useful in the deeper leagues where his 3.3 assists and 1.5 3s per help now, but after a hot start he hasn’t shot well.   Evan Turner for Danny Granger – Turner’s value in non-turnovers leagues will flatten out significantly.  Not only will he see less minutes in Indy, but the organized and serious Pacers will not indulge Turner’s wacky and ball-dominant tendencies.  If you play with TOs, the drop in value will be mitigated. Those falling all over themselves to grab Granger may be in for disappointment, but he should be on the radar in deep leagues after landing with the terrible 76ers.  The simple reason is that he has shown the ability to shoot in the past, and if he shoots near his career .435/.382/.849 instead of .359/.330/.962 and gets minutes, he’ll turn in lines comparable to the 10.5/5.5/3 he has in his 2 heavy-minutes starts this year. He has practically no competition for minutes, and is in a contract year. However, he may just be done. Granger is owned in 24 percent of Yahoo! leagues.   The other trades include a few players like Marcus Thornton and Gary Neal who either have been useful fantasy players for stretches, or have fooled owners into thinking they might be.  Do not be fooled this time. Lakers Rumors: L.A. plan to avoid Carmelo Anthony; will target Kevin Love in 2015 and Kevin Durant in 2016

So, where do we go from here? That’s the question many fans of the Los Angeles Lakers are asking right now. The team is currently sat at 19-36 and hasn’t seen Kobe Bryant wear their purple and gold jersey since December. Before the trade deadline, Lakers management couldn’t find a worthwhile deal for Pau Gasol, and so he’ll hang around for the remaining 27 games and will...

PHOTO: Nick Young poses for pic with Ray-J

Swaggy P and Ray-J are an odd pairing. I can only imagine the kind of conversations they both have. Do they sit in a room and compare how many indoor and outdoor swimming pools they own? I don’t even know how these two know each other. However, Ray-J did grow up in California just like Nick Young, so maybe that’s it. I noticed that Nick didn’t opt to dress in his Kanye West...

Gasol might leave Los Angeles Lakers in free agency

The Los Angeles Lakers did what they could to trade Pau Gasol during the NBA’s trade deadline this past week, but ultimately the Lakers decided to hang on to their veteran big man. It was a bit of an odd decision given Gasol’s pending free agent status, but some believe Los Angeles will attempt to keep Gasol at season end. That feeling might not be mutual, according to Alex...

Nick Young has great quote about early return from knee injury

For those of you wondering when Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young is set to return, it could be on Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets. Young (who has been out with a knee fracture since February 3rd) decided to drop a legendary line on ESPN Los Angeles Dave McMenamin about his possible return: Nick Young on his relatively quick return from a knee fracture: "It's a miracle...

Agent: Nick Young wants to stay with the Lakers

PHOTO: ajansspor.com While Mitch Kupchak said earlier this week that he expects Nick Young to opt-out of his contract after this season, Swaggy P’s agent says that doesn’t necessarily mean he wants to head elsewhere. “Nick wants to be a Laker,” Young’s agent, Mark Bartelstein told Mark Medina from the L.A. Daily News. “But his focus right now is to get healthy, get back...

PHOTO: Wesley Johnson wears Crazy 8 shoes versus Nets; Jodie Meeks opts for Kobe Prelude 5s

Sadly, thanks to all the losses, this season has become more about the kicks than than the wins. I guess we have to keep ourselves entertained somehow, though. Last night, both Wesley Johnson and Jodie Meeks made interesting shoe choices against the Brooklyn Nets. Johnson went for his usual adidas Crazy 8s – this particular pair featured a purple, gold and white colorway to match...

Lakers (18-36) vs. Celtics (19-36) Game Preview – 2/21/14

The Lakers are still looking for their first home victory since January 3rd. That’s right, the team has lost eight straight at Staples Center. In that span, the team has given up a whopping 112.5 points per game. Luckily, the equally struggling Boston Celtics are coming to town. The two teams met over a month ago in Boston, and the Lakers were fortunate enough to come out on top...

Kobe Bryant still has soreness, swelling in knee; rest of season in serious jeopardy

Hope that Kobe Bryant will be able to play before the end of the season took another hit Friday when the Lakers said the superstar is still experiencing swelling and soreness in his left knee. Bryant was examined Friday by a team physician, and will be reevaluated in three more weeks, the Lakers said. There are 27 games remaining, and it’s unclear if Bryant could return before...

Brooks fuels Lakers 101-92 win over Boston

The Los Angeles Lakers haven't had a memorable season, but the team completed the season-series sweep of the Boston Celtics in a 101-92 victory. The Lakers had a huge fourth quarter swing, outscoring Boston 38-18, led by new Laker MarShon Brooks scoring 10 of his 14 points in the final frame. Six Lakers reached double figures, led by Pau Gasol and Chris Kaman each scoring a...

Kobe Bryant on Jason Collins: Act of courage will have huge domino effect

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant told Yahoo Sports that the Brooklyn Nets' signing of openly gay center Jason Collins will have a "domino effect" that will impact much more than the gay and sports communities. Collins became the first openly gay athlete to play in one of America's four major sports when he debuted for the Nets against the Lakers on Sunday night...

Celtics Morning Joe: Former Celtic MarShon Brooks lights up the Celtics

Former Celtic MarShon Brooks let the Celtics know that maybe they made a big mistake. Brooks, whom the C’s dealt to the Warriors in mid-January, joined the Lakers via another trade on Wednesday and appeared in his first game with Los Angeles Friday night. Was it destiny that his first game was against the Celtics? The third-year guard started the fourth quarter and scored the first...

Lakers (19-36) vs. Nets (25-28) Game Preview – 2/23/14

PHOTO: Sports Out West The Lakers just swept the season series against the Boston Celtics, and now they look to do the same against the Brooklyn Nets. If Los Angeles is able to win tonight, it will be the first time they have won back-to-back home games since November 24th. I’m not joking. Earlier in the season, the two teams met up in Brooklyn where the Lakers were able to pull...

Hey, we know that guy! When: 9:00 PM EST; Sunday, February 23rd, 2014 Where: Staples Center; Los Angeles, CA TV: YES Network Under most circumstances, tonight's Nets-Lakers tilt would be a run-of-the-mill Sunday night meeting between one team far outside of the playoff discussion (the Lakers) and one firmly entrenched in it (the Nets). A pair of former...

Kobe Bryant Believes Jason Collins Will Have 'Domino Effect' Beyond Sports

Kobe Bryant believes the Brooklyn Nets' signing of Jason Collins will have a "domino effect" beyond the gay and sports communities. "His impact [Sunday night] is greater than what people think," Bryant said. "You look at it from the context of having the first openly gay player. But they missed the domino effect that it has way beyond sports."...

Nets-Lakers Preview

Nearly every contest of the Brooklyn Nets' 11-game losing streak to the Los Angeles Lakers came with Kobe Bryant on the floor. While the Nets won't have to contend with Bryant this time, a face from the past will be trying to haunt them instead. MarShon Brooks, coming off a solid Los Angeles debut, faces the team he began his career with for the first time Sunday night...
