The Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors started the NBA’s trade deadline bonanza to a rousing start Tuesday night by pulling off a five-player deal.

In the trade Golden State sent Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown to Milwaukee in exchange for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson.

Warriors Send Ellis, Udoh, Brown to Bucks For Bogut, Jackson

Bogut was the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft and has spent his entire seven-year career in Milwaukee. Over that time the 7-foot Australian has averaged 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds, but his durability has come into question over the past few seasons. In fact, Bogut hasn’t actually played in a game since January 25 thanks to an injured left ankle.

The Bucks will get Ellis, a fellow seven-year veteran, who boasts career averages of 19.6 points and 4.4 assists. Ellis will join a backcourt that already has a scorer in point guard Brandon Jennings.

While Kwame Brown is a waste of uniform fabric, Ekpe Udoh is a promising young power forward who will give the Bucks some athleticism up front. Udoh is in just his second professional season out of Baylor. He is averaging 5.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season.

Milwaukee has been trying to dump Jackson’s contract on someone for weeks now, as he is owed more than $10 million next season. He played for the Warriors from 2007-2009 and maybe he’ll figure things out again in the Bay Area.

This deal adds pieces to both teams and should benefit them, but I don’t know how much better Bogut will make the Warriors.

As things stand I think the Bucks got the better of this one.
