David Stern and Billy Hunter.credit: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com Given the recent lockout, many basketball fans now know who Billy Hunter is. In case you don’t, he is the executive of the National Basketball Players Association, who signed a 5 year, $15 million contract in 2010. So, what’s unusual about the contract? Seems ordinary, right? Well, not quite. According to a Yahoo! report, Billy Hunter never gained the necessary approval from the players to verify his deal. National Basketball Players Association executive director Billy Hunter and union general counsel Gary Hall failed to get proper player representative approval for a five-year, $15 million contract extension for Hunter in 2010, Yahoo! Sports has learned. The possible violation of the NBPA’s constitution raises questions about the legitimacy of Hunter’s contract and his future as executive director. This was discovered by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison, a law firm that has been investigating into the business practices of Billy Hunter and the NBPA. Apparently, there was certainly investigating that needed to be done. Obviously, this is not a good look for the NBPA or Hunter. It makes the association look sloppy and unorganized. Hunter’s position and contract are now in huge jeopardy, as the legal steps that were supposed to be taken were not fully carried out. We’ll see what comes of this, and if Billy Hunter’s job is at risk. -Mark Evans, Assistant Manager/Editor of Content Follow us on Twitter The post NBPA Never Approved Billy Hunter’s $15 Million Contract appeared first on Pass The Pill.
