Avery Johnson needs to do something to help this Nets offense before it gets worse. The Nets shot 40.6% against the Celtics and their anointed leader is fizzling under pressure. Funny that Jason Kidd just the other day insinuated Deron Williams needs to stop worrying about the offense and shoot better. The Nets guard is disengaged only attempting 7 shots in the loss. A lousy performance to say the least from Williams, who only garnered 6 assists and turner the ball over four times. The Nets as a unit committed 20 turnovers. Is it the offense the Nets point guard is unwilling to conform to or is it the head coach. Avery Johnson has a lot of respect in this league as a coach and player; infamous for coaching the Maverick team that loss four straight in the NBA Finals. Regardless Avery Johnson knows the game, Williams isn’t playing it. The Nets offense needs to swing the focus to Brook Lopez, that is Avery Johnson’s best option. Joe Johnson is really good but not young enough to be thee guy on a playoff team. I love Gerald Wallace but his game is energy and effort, not finesse. Wallace doesn’t qualify as clutch but you can respect that he’ll take the big shot. Lopez needs to become a better passer out of the post, but more touches in the paint will lead to open shooters. Johnson and Wallace are both capable of knocking down the open shots, the Nets coach hoped Williams would orchestrate. At this point in the season the Nets can still stop this slide, they’ve lost 7 of their last 10 contests. The Nets were outplayed for three straight quarters in their loss to the Celtics. A ridiculous, 12 free throws attempts were missed—the team shot a meager 58.6% from the line. Paul Pierce ran an offense pretty well tallying 10 assists, more than Rajon Rondo. But Pierce and Kevin Garnett coasted the entire game, as the Nets didn’t have much fight in them after the 1st quarter. Joe Johnson finished with 12 points for the Nets shooting 4-14 from the field. Johnson only attempted 3 free throws in his 41-minutes of game action. Avery Johnson needs to question the effort of his Nets club, not the offense. Wallace or “crash” played a solid game. The Nets forward went 7-11 from the line, he and Lopez finished with 15 points, respectively. At the beginning of the season the Nets were trying and the offense worked, they lost games but they won games. There were no injuries to key players, trades, or coaching changes so why the change in play? A 17-point loss on a nationally televised game should be a wake up call. Accountability, Brook Lopez, and effort are what Avery Johnson needs to preach, amen. Follow Me On Twitter

LeBron James, Avery Johnson’s son question firing

Avery Johnson was fired as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, one month after he was named Eastern Conference coach of the month, and two weeks after Deron Williams complained about the team’s offensive system. Brooklyn entered the season with high expectations after acquiring Joe Johnson in the offseason and re-signing Gerald Wallace. They started off 11-4 and won five...

Nets Fire Avery Johnson

credit: thesportsquotient.com Amidst a year where things have not gone as well as what had been imagined for the Brooklyn nets, head coach Avery Johnson is the first to feel the displeasure of ownership. The Nets have fired Avery Johnson less than 30 games into the season following an embarrassing loss on Christmas day to the Boston Celtics. The Brooklyn Nets have fired coach Avery...

Nets fire Head Coach Avery Johnson.

According to an ESPN.com report, Brooklyn Nets head coach Avery Johnson has been fired by the organization. The report was confirmed by Nets general manager Billy King. Brooklyn Nets owner, Mikhail Prokhorov commented on the...

Rumor – Coach Avery Johnson, FIRED

Word is that the Brookly Nets have fired Coach Avery Johnson. This is still somewhat surprising, despite their recent tailspin into a 14-13 record. It should be pointed out that both Deron Williams and Joe Johnson have been less than stellar this season. Check out this quote given by Johnson just a few days ago: “Let me give some real rocket science right now. Listen to this: at...

Nets fire Avery Johnson

The Brooklyn Nets have fired Avery Johnson after the team has sputtered to a 14-14 start. That kind of record might have been OK in East Rutherford, N.J., but not for the new-look Nets in Brooklyn. The team has namd P.J. Carlesimo the interim coach. Brooklyn got out to an 11-4 start, but have gone 3-10 since -- including two losses to those cross-borough rivals from Manhattan...

Nets: Joe Johnson and Nets Beat Philly Despite Offensive Issues

The 7th place Brooklyn Nets despite obvious offensive issues won at the Barclays Center beating the 76ers. Efficiency on the offense still took a loss. It’s hard to pick a side on the recent allegations made by Deron Williams, that Avery Johnson’s offense is to blame for his lack of production. At first, it sounds preposterous that a top tier point guard is blaming a “system”...

Bucks seek home win vs. Humphries-less Nets

The Nets may have moved to Brooklyn and added Joe Johnson, but their problems against the Milwaukee Bucks did not end when these teams met earlier this month. The Bucks proved to be superior in the backcourt in that contest and have now won 12 straight over the Nets heading into Wednesday night's meeting at the Bradley Center. Milwaukee won 97-88 at Brooklyn on Dec. 9 in the...

Brooklyn Nets Fire Coach Avery Johnson As Deron Williams, Billy King Strike Again

Multiple stories reporting Avery Johnson‘s firing on Thursday described Brooklyn Nets players as “blindsided” by the news. By any normal standards, this should have been a shocking development: the reigning NBA coach of the month, who was given a thrown-together roster, getting the boot after a rough stretch in the schedule. Nothing is shocking given the situation, however...

New-look lineup guides Nets past Sixers

NEW YORK -- With the Nets struggling on both ends of the floor for the entire month of December, Brooklyn coach Avery Johnson decided to change things up a little as his team faced the Philadelphia 76ers at home Sunday afternoon. Johnson benched starting power forward Kris Humphries, moved Gerald Wallace from small forward to power forward and inserted little-used reserve Keith...

Nets 95, 76ers 92

NEW YORK - Joe Johnson scored 10 of his team-high 22 points in the third quarter and Keith Bogans scored 13 in a rare start, as the Brooklyn Nets snapped a three-game losing streak with a 95-92 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday afternoon at the Barclays Center. The win was just the third in 11 December games for the Nets (14-12), who posted an 11-4 record in November....

Green Envy: What Nets fans said - 12/25

The Celtics delivered a great Christmas gift, a win over a half decent team! Nets fans seemed to have an awful christmas. Mostly their coach, Avery Johnson, got a ton of heat with a lot of calls for his job. It does really seem like the Nets have no idea what to do on offense. Still, it was a great defensive game for the Celtics and a nice start to the road trip. Top Three: How...

Bobcats-Nets Preview

The Brooklyn Nets are hoping a new coach can help them realize their lofty goals. A home game against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats might get the team headed back in the right direction. Brooklyn will seek only its fourth win this month in interim coach P.J. Carlesimo's debut Friday night against the Bobcats, losers of 16 in a row. The Nets started 11-4 after a re-energizing...
