TEAMS: Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks
Brooklyn Nets fans are excited the Nets organization signed Joe Johnson, but can Johnson return to form for the Nets is the question?
If you followed Johnson during his 11-year career you know he is a talented scorer on the wing, something these Nets will benefit from in the long run. Accompanied by Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, Nets players will to be able to distribute the ball with confidence their teammates will knock down shots.
For Johnson that wasn’t always the case in his career. His last couple of years with the Atlanta Hawks, Johnson didn’t have many players who attracted attention in late game situations. On his current team that isn’t fathomable.
Johnson is looking to provide an offense boost for the Brooklyn Nets, and not necessarily carry the offense. It will be up to Nets point guard, Deron Williams to distribute the rock accordingly.
Nets head coach Avery Johnson; will stress Johnson to knock down open shots for this Nets team.
Johnson, the six-time all-star, is capable of scoring on a consistent basis, even though his numbers declined his last couple of years in Atlanta. It looks like the Nets are counting on Johnson benefiting from not being the focus on the offensive end.
Without the added responsibly, Johnson can be the second or third option behind the younger Williams and Lopez.
You can’t question the years Johnson have put in, and should serve as a mentor for many of the Nets youngsters. It is also hard to infer anything negative about the team this organization has assembled since they switched owners.
Luckily all questions will be answered starting November 1st when Johnson and the Nets take on rival New York Knicks. Johnson will need to play a big role in solidifying the Nets as a staple in the city of New York.
It won’t be an easy task though the Nets are on the right step.
