The New Jersey Nets have played their final home game in the Garden State. On Monday the team hosted the 76ers at the Prudential Center in Newark, closing a 35-year chapter in the land of Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Soprano. Next season the franchise will move across the Hudson to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the home of Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls and Radio Raheem, to become the Brooklyn Nets.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie earlier in the day talked about the Nets leaving their frequent-butt-of-jokes home state and offered a rather resentful goodbye.

“I’m not going to the Nets game tonight, and my message to the Nets is goodbye,” the Republican said at an appearance Monday, bringing to the audience to laughter and applause.

“You don’t wanna stay, we don’t want you. I mean, seriously, I’m not going to be in the business of begging people to stay here in one of the most beautiful arenas in America that they’ve had a chance to play in. It’s in one of the country’s most vibrant cities. If they want to leave here and go to Brooklyn, good riddance. See you later.

Christie not holding anything back! Ehh, what does he care. It’s not like the Nets not going to be voting in elections anymore. Anyway, go on, guv. You’re on a roll.

“There will be no tears shed tonight on my part. They go, they go. That’s a decision they made a long time ago, and if they want to go to Brooklyn, have at it.”

If you’re keeping track at home of the “We Don’t Want You in New Jersey” checklist, that’s Nets down; Snooki, The Situation, Pauly D, Vinny, Jwoww, Deena, Ronnie and Sammi to go.

We’ll find out soon enough. The team’s name change becomes official next week and...
