Kaiser Gates is coming off a year where he played for the Long Island Nets in the G League.
The former Xavier star averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per contest while shooting 53.2% from the field and 55.4% from the three-point range in 24 regular season games (13 starts).
He also appeared in 16 Showcase Cup games and two G League playoff games.
This summer, Gates was a free agent, and Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that he will now sign a two-way deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Via Charania: "The New Orleans Pelicans are signing forward Kaiser Gates on a two-way NBA contract, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Gates averaged 14 points on 55.4 percent 3-point shooting for G League Long Island last season."
Gates initially went undrafted in 2018 and has spent four seasons in the G League.
His career averages are 12.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest while shooting 43.0% from the field and 38.6% from the three-point range in 122 regular season games (he has also appeared in 16 Showcase Cup games and three G League playoff games).
As for the Pelicans, they are coming off a year where they were the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record.
They lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the play-in tournament, so they were unable to make the NBA playoffs.
The Pelicans have a talented roster with C.J. McCollum, Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, but the team has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons.
