New York Knicks Get More Bad News on OG Anunoby’s Injury Amid Playoff Struggles
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Without a doubt, OG Anunoby has been a key piece of the New York Knicks’ rotation heading into the playoffs. The thing is, the former Toronto Raptors star may not be available anytime soon to help the team eliminate the Indiana Pacers.

Before Anunoby played for the Knicks this season, the one-time NBA champion spent 27 games first with the Toronto Raptors. During that period, the 6’7″ forward notched 15.1 points on 37 percent shooting from beyond the arc, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on a nightly basis. However, the front office decided to move him in favor of a rebuild.

Anunoby, along with Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn, were traded to New York for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second round pick from the Detroit Pistons. Right from the get-go, the forward made his presence felt by being a monster on defense while draining three-pointers on the other end of the floor. Plus, his fit with All-Star guard Jalen Brunson was ideal as he could play off the ball with him.

Unfortunately, Anunoby missed a lot of time before the regular season ended due to injuries. The story is the same now as the Knicks’ forward is bound to miss Game 5 against the Pacers soon.

OG Anunoby Unable To Play For New York Knicks’ Game 5 Against Indiana Pacers

In Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Anunoby strained his hamstring during a 130-121 win for the Knicks. In an article by Stefan Bondy for the New York Post, the New York star will miss Game 5 as well.

“The forward hasn’t started running yet and is doing “just pool work” in his recovery from a strained hamstring, Tom Thibodeau said Sunday,” Bondy wrote.

This update is worrying for Knicks fans as the Pacers recently tied their series against New York with two games for each team. Without Anunoby, the team will have to rely more on Brunson for offense while missing his defensive capability on the court.

It remains to be seen whether Anunoby can make it on time to help New York eliminate the Pacers. Otherwise, it’s going to be the other way around and the Brunson-led squad may find themselves watching the playoffs at home.
