New York Knicks: How an ‘Epic Fart’ Hilariously Fueled Crucial Game 5 Victory Vs. Indiana Pacers
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks played some inspired basketball on Tuesday night as they took down the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of their East Semis matchup, 121-91. The Knicks got hot from the get-go and they just never really gave their opponents a chance to get back in this one.

Who would have thought that it was actually an “epic fart” inside the locker room before the game that fueled New York’s show-stopping performance in Game 5?

New York Knicks News: The Fart That Changed the Series

I have been reporting on NBA news for more than half a decade now and I can honestly say that this is the first time I’ve heard about a fart playing a significant role in a playoff series. Well, this was exactly the case on Tuesday as an unnamed Knicks player let loose some gas inside the locker room right before tip-off.

According to team insider Fred Katz of The Athletic, the fart played a key role in easing up the tension among the players heading into their pivotal Game 5 showdown against the Pacers:

“There was an epic fart that loosened up the locker room a lot before the game,” Katz said (h/t Jesse Cinquini of AHN Fire Digital). “And I’m not going to say who it was ’cause I’m not going to embarrass the guy.”

‘It Was Loud But Proud’

Naturally, this narrative has taken a life of its own. So much so, that Katz was asked to shed more light on the incident on an appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show. According to the Knicks reporter, it wasn’t the fart itself that loosened up the players. It was actually the lie that attempted to cover up the passing of gas that had the entire team breaking into laughter:

Unfortunately, we will probably never know who the culprit is. I’m guessing, though, that the Knicks will want to have this anonymous player let one rip yet again ahead of Game 6 on Friday.
