Nick Young had a tough start to the season, but to his credit he has improved greatly and is one of the main reasons the Lakers have been able to stay competitive in a very tough Western Conference. He is taking so much pride in his defense, it has spawned a new nickname. Check out the story from the Nick Young, the eccentric swingman for the Los Angeles Lakers, has a new nickname. He’s went by the moniker “Swaggy P” in recent years, but due to his recent production on the defensive end of the floor, he’s now going by “Swaggy D” and cracking jokes about winning the 2013-14 Defensive Player of the Year award. “He says he’s changing his name to ‘Swaggy D,’” Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni said with a laugh. “So we’ll see if that holds up. … I’m loving it. [I’m most impressed with] his concentration and his ability not to take a play off. He’s playing both ends of the floor. I think he’s playing phenomenally right now. … It’s great. He has a great personality, he’s fun and he’s always laughing, he’s always up. Plus he’s playing defense, which even makes his jokes a little funnier. He’s concentrated, has a lot of energy and always can score the ball.” Maybe a coincidence, but Swaggy D started to play better once he started dating Iggy Azalea. It will be interesting to see how the team reacts when Kobe Bryant returns.
