Chicago Bulls Basketball - On Thursday, John Paxson revealed that no action would more than likely be happening for the Chicago Bulls at trade deadline next week. We’ve got the trade deadline a week from now. You have to put yourself in the other team’s position — people don’t just give up great players. So we obviously talk and keep our eyes and ears open, but to anticipate something’s going to happen, I don’t think that’s likely, to be honest with you. Is No Action the Correct Move? While all we can do is see what happens over the next two months, I don’t really have too much of an issue with the fact that no additional trades within the organization will take place this season. While there are plenty of expiring contracts out there to take advantage of, like Pax said, it would somehow have to fit into the Bulls long term plans as well. Sure, there are plenty of players that GarPax could acquire that Thibs could ride and get the most out of, but the roster is pretty much full as it is. The fringe players are expendable, but not really sought after. What About Melo? While Melo is still on Chicago’s radar, and hopefully vice versa, the Knicks would be foolish to disperse Anthony this season. Yes, he has an early-termination clause for this upcoming off-season, however, the Knicks aren’t going to improve their position by trading him now. Again, these are the New York Knicks, so who knows. Clear, clairvoyant contracts and daily decisions have not seen the hardwood of MSG for decades. Thinking Ahead To 2015 The Bulls are one of only a few teams with enough cash to go after Melo this summer, if he does in fact choose to opt out. This would be ideal for the Bulls for a few reasons. Namely, they would have less competitors driving up the price, and they will be more appealing for a possible mid-level UFA from the 2015 class to come over and play under Thibs, and with Butler, Melo, Rose, and Noah. Heck, you could probably get said player to take less money for that action boss.
