In January of 2004, Lawrence Frank inherited a New Jersey Nets team that was the defending Eastern Conference champs. The team had been on an unheralded run and the future looked bright despite a slow start that caused Byron Scott his job. Fast forward and as Frank enters his sixth full season, he's at a crossroad. He's in the final year of his contract and may be out the door if the team doesn't improve significantly.
Frank's team has posted a 34-48 record the past two seasons and missed the playoffs in the dismal Atlantic Division. Yes Frank should be given some leeway as management has decided to free up cap space over the past few years at the expense of talent. In June they traded away Vince Carter, leaving Devin Harris to assume the role of team leader and go to guy. It remains to be seen if he can fill those shoes.
