Any time a player goes through the entire offseason without any training camp, he is going to need some time to get back into the swing of things. The Dallas Mavericks played it safe with Dirk Nowitzki, who had offseason knee surgery and missed the first quarter of the season. He came off of the bench and was limited to right around 20 minutes per game for his first six games, but on Saturday, he made his first start of the year against the New Orleans Hornets.

Nowitzki frustrated with front office?

The Dallas Mavericks are eight games below .500, and their superstar recently expressed his doubts about the team's ability to contend in a candid interview.

Dirk Nowitzki may want to be traded if Mavs aren’t competitive

Dirk Nowitzki is 34 years old and nearing the end of his NBA career. He has made 11 straight All-Star Games and finally won the elusive NBA title two seasons ago. But the Dallas Mavericks decided to break up their title team because of changes to the league’s collective bargaining agreement and take a gamble that they would land some big-time free agents the next summer. The Mavericks...

Nowitzki laughs at idea of being traded to LA

It's strange to imagine the season when Dirk Nowitzki no longer wears a Dallas Mavericks jersey, the only uniform he has donned during his 15 NBA seasons. But what is even more bizarre is the possibility of seeing Nowitzki wearing another team's colors. It only seems right that the face of the Dallas franchise finishes his professional career with the team he led to its...

Dirk Nowitzki Criticizes Mavericks' Offseason Moves

Dirk Nowitzki has plenty to be frustrated about, but the Dallas Mavericks star forward missed mcuh of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee.  He should have expected a tough road upon his return.  Unfortunately, the road has been far more difficult than most expected.  Dallas is now eight games under .500 and far from looking like a play-off contender....

How long before the Dallas Mavericks start the climb up the ladder?

After a very disappointing loss to one of the worst teams in the league, New Orleans Hornets, the Dallas Mavericks are now sinking to the bottom of the league with them. I can remember when we referred to the other opponent as “the struggling whoever” and now we are referred to as the struggling opponent; no one fears us at all any more, no one. We have lost to almost every team...

Dirk Nowitzki Questions Mavericks’ Future

“It’s going to be tough now,” Nowitzki said after the Mavs’ home overtime loss to the Western Conference cellar-dwelling New Orleans Hornets. “I always liked to think you don’t want to build your franchise on hope. “We hoped for Deron last year. We hoped for Dwight. Why would he leave the Lakers? To me, it makes no sense. He’s in a great situation. Why would CP3...

Dirk Nowitzki Questions Mavs, Suggest They Trade Him If Not Competitive

Dirk Nowitzki has been a Dallas Maverick a long time, actually almost 14 years to be exact.  The Mavericks have made the playoffs 12 straight season, but that will likely end this year. Nowitzki is 34 years old and not interested in a rebuilding plan.  Dirk is frustrated with the Mavs front office and personnel choices, namely letting Tyson Chandler walk, and according to ESPN Dallas...

Dirk Nowitzki: I’m Going To Finish My Career In Dallas

Dirk Nowitzki never wants to play for another NBA franchise, but he also doesn’t want to finish his career just fighting for the West’s final playoff spot. “Ultimately, my goal was always to finish my career in Dallas,” Nowitzki told ESPN in an interview taped before Wednesday’s Mavs-Clippers game. “The only way if I was going to leave was if we won a championship and...

Dirk Nowitzki Criticizes Mavericks’ Front Office Decisions, Says ‘You Don’t Want to Build Your Franchise on Hope’

There’s hope based on possibilities, and then there’s wishful thinking. Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki now says his team has slid into wishful thinking territory. Dallas, which won the NBA championship in 2011, has fallen far from the top of the league since taking the crown — and it’s not hard to see why. Rather than restocking the title-winning team, owner Mark Cuban instead...

Nowizki Expresses Concern About Future Of Mavericks

Dirk Nowitzki openly questioned the future of the Mavericks and wondered aloud whether the franchise should consider trading him.

One columnist thinks the Lakers should trade Dwight Howard to the Mavericks for Dirk Nowitzki

Yesterday, we discussed how reality is beginning to set in for the Lakers. A reality that screams that the Lakers are not a good basketball team at the moment. We also discussed that Steve Nash isn’t very optimistic that this team will get any better this season. And it may take another summer together to get to that point. But of course, some don’t want to wait that long and...

Mavericks-Jazz Preview

Coach Rick Carlisle feels the Dallas Mavericks have bottomed out. Dirk Nowitzki thinks his own situation is a work in progress. Following their 11th defeat in 13 games, Carlisle and the Mavericks are hoping Nowitzki can help them turn things around Monday night against the host Utah Jazz. Dallas (13-21) is only two seasons removed from winning its first NBA title, and it has reached...

Cuban responds to star's critical comments

In an exclusive interview with FOX Sports, Mavs owner Mark Cuban is responding to some incendiary comments from his superstar Dirk Nowitzki regarding the club's future and it's plan to acquire a "big fish." "Dirk," Cuban tells us, "gets annoyed with our team every year. He uses his annoyance as motivation... Dirk gets upset when we go through a tough...

Gordon Hayward scored a season-high 27 points, including four 3-pointers, and the Utah Jazz defeated the Dallas Mavericks 100-94 on Monday night. Alec Burks added a season-high 13, including eight in the fourth quarter when Utah held Dallas (13-22) to 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting. Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs with 20 points. He had six straight late, but also was called for a charge...
