OJ Mayo, one of the more touted free agents left on the market, has chosen his destination for the future, and will be signing with the Dallas Mavericks. Taking a page out of Deron Williams’ book, Mayo took to his twitter account to announce his much anticipated decision:
I will be signing with dallas! #Mavsnation

Mayo and the Mavericks are a good fit, though I did feel that Chicago would have been the best place for the shooting guard. Mayo will help Dallas spread the floor with his shooting, and more importantly, he will move Vince Carter to the bench. In Vince’s “advanced age” that is a much better place for him.
After striking out on their main target in the aforementioned Deron Williams, Mayo is not such a bad consolation prize, depending on the price of course. I don’t know what the future holds for the Mavs, but they seem to be getting closer and closer to playoff caliber with the signings and pickups that they made. Elton Brand, Chris Kaman, and OJ Mayo aren’t exactly Deron and Dwight, but it’s not half bad either…
