OKC Thunder Add Two to G League Roster

The Oklahoma City Thunder made two additions to their G League roster on Wednesday morning, signing Hunter Maldonado and KJ Williams. 

Both players spent time with the team this summer, playing in the Summer League alongside a handful of players who are on the active roster. The two rookies showed enough in the summer league to earn a contract with the Blue, starting their NBA careers in one of the best developmental systems in the league.

Maldonado and Williams are both intriguing prospects who should be valuable to the Blue.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, Maldonado averaged 18.5 points, 6.3 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game as a fifth-year senior at Wyoming in 2021-22. The veteran guard earned All-MWC honors for his efforts that season, and seemingly has the positional size and versatility to fit well in Mark Daigneault's system.

Maldonado showed off some of his skills in the Summer League and could earn a two-way deal somewhere around the league sooner rather than later.

Williams, a rookie from LSU, also put up impressive statistics during his lone season with the Tigers.

After spending his first four years of college at Murray State, Williams averaged 17.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 2022-23 at LSU. The 6-foot-10, 245-pound big man shot 49% from the field and 41.1% from beyond the arc during his redshirt senior season.

With his size and collegiate production, Williams could also carve out a solid role with the Blue this year. 

While Williams and Maldonado likely won't make any impact on the Thunder's record this season, adding solid prospects to the team's G League affiliate will still help the Blue become a better development system. 

Additionally, both players are already familiar with the organization and could become important practice players or two-way contracts for Oklahoma City.
