The Orlando Magic are looking forward to another year towards getting back to playoff contention, and they are very happy with the draft that they just had. They are looking to make another move or two in free agency, and they made their first one today by claiming Willie Green off of waivers from the Los Angeles Clippers. Green was cut by the Clippers and simply wasn’t going to play on the deep roster that they have formed there. Orlando has claimed Willie Green off waivers from the Clippers, league source tells Yahoo. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 30, 2014 This move isn’t expected to be anything special, but he might be a rotational player for a few minutes per game next season. The Magic have already gotten rid of Jameer Nelson, E’Twaun Moore, and Doron Lamb this offseason, and they could use another veteran guard to come in and take up a few minutes. Green will also be a nice presence to have in the locker room for all of the younger players. Green played in 55 regular season games last season with the Clippers, starting in nine of those appearances. He averaged 5.0 points and 1.4 rebounds per game, and was pretty much a non-factor on an L.A. team that had a lot of talented guards. Orlando will need some bench pieces, and he is expected to be one of them that gets around 15 minutes per game. Overall, this is a very small move that won’t make too much of a difference. Green can score the basketball a little bit and shoot as well, but he quite simply isn’t the type of player that can change a game. This is simply a move for depth purposes, and it’s still very possible that Orlando brings in other players that take his spot.
