Brian Schmitz explains why the Magic won’t add a third point guard.

I asked Stan Van Gundy why not add, say, veteran Anthony Johnson. Johnson knows the team, having played here the past two years, and could use some preseason audition time to hook on with another club.

Van Gundy understood the premise, but then revealed why the club is hesitate to add another PG.

Money.

I’m not buying it. A franchise that has a $480 million arena and a $90 million payroll can afford another minimum contract.

Zach McCann previews Brandon Bass.

McCann has a practice report from yesterday.

He also explains why wins and losses aren’t important this preseason.

The players on the floor will be trying to win, but the coaching staff has little concern over the outcome of the games.

“I won’t vary from what we want to get accomplished to try and win the game,” Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. “We won’t adjust because we’re getting hurt on something. I know, offensively, we’ve got our bread-and-butter things we can go to for good shots. We’ll run some of it. But that’s not the stuff we need a lot of work on.”

Additionally, Van Gundy won’t adjust the rotation or players in the game based on the results. He and the coaching staff will devise a plan for how many minutes to play each player and stick to it regardless of what’s happening on the floor.

The Magic are taking a long term approach to this preseason.

Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets, who the Magic will take on tonight, is putting everything into his comeback bid.

Courtney Lee is excited to face his former team.
