According to a report by CBS Sports, Lakers forward Pau Gasol is dealing with knee tendinitis. This could be a reason why his numbers and performance have not been in great shape lately. The media and critics have been blaming head coach Mike D’Antoni and his new system as leaving Pau Gasol out of the loop, but the offense could just be an excuse. Even his own teammate, Kobe Bryant, has been vocal about Pau Gasol’s conditioning. Perhaps his conditioning is lacking because Gasol is having knee pain that nobody knows about until now. Pau is definitely one of the most talented big men in the league right now and knee problems could hinder just that.
As pointed out by CBS Sports, Pau Gasol has not missed any practice time or any games this season. If this knee tendinitis continues on, this could turn into another Andrew Bynum situation and hinder his future in basketball. The Lakers definitely need Pau Gasol to be healthy and his knees should be monitored and tended to.
Perhaps this is a reason why Pau Gasol has not been actively driving into the paint as often as he should. Instead, he is at the elbow shooting jumpers.
