Fox Sports West:
Steve Nash's arrival added some much-needed tranquillity for the Lakers.
But it remains to be seen whether that settled feeling will just become the calm before the storm. Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak expressed doubts the front office could hit another "home run," but he made it clear "our roster is not complete."
For Pau Gasol, that means he won't know if he's returning to L.A. until perhaps training camp starts.
"We all know by now that there are no guarantees in this business," Gasol said in an email to The Times. "I want to win another ring and I cannot see any other place better than the Lakers, and LA, my city, to do so."
Gasol's hardly reflecting on that these days. He says he's been concentrating solely on the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, where he hopes he can lead the Spanish national team to a gold medal after losing in the 2008 Final to Team USA. But Gasol still sounded giddy over the Lakers' acquiring Nash.
"Steve is one of the most talented point guards of all time, and a player I personally admire," Gasol said. "I really can't wait to play with him."
Gasol imagines Nash's presence making the Lakers' offense more fluid. Kobe Bryant finished second in the league last season in scoring, but his 43 field goal accuracy was his worst since his second season in the NBA. Bynum posted career-high averages in points (18.7) and rebounds (11.8), but his inconsistent effort and immature behavior significantly hurt the Lakers' locker room and on-court performances. The bench, meanwhile, finished last in the league in points (30.5), 20th in shooting percentage (21.8) and 28th in efficiency (27.2). Gasol expects Nash's career three-point shooting (42.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.98) will significantly bolster everyone else's performances.
"The most important thing for me is that he makes everyone around him better and gets easy buckets for his teammates," Gasol said. "With Steve, the one thing you know for sure is that if you are open he is going to find you."
For Gasol, that will most likely result in an improvement in running pick-and-rolls. According to Synergy Sports Technology, Gasol shot only 37 in such sequences, attributable to several factors. Gasol's jumper proved streaky. Derek Fisher rarely ran pick-and-roll sets. And Ramon Sessions executed them inconsistently. Considering that play has become Nash's signature move, Gasol envisions more open looks. In turn, Gasol believes such a dynamic gives the Lakers a good shot at winning the NBA title.
"I really like our chances," Gasol said. "I know the team will be as hungry as ever to win a championship."
Assuming, of course, that the Lakers don't trade Gasol.

The newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Steve Nash, expressed his thanks to some fans who were kind enough to hand him a beer while driving at full speed down a California freeway. The fans were driving in a Yukon XL and recognized Steve Nash in the back seat of his vehicle. They shouted his name and, as both vehicles continued to speed down the highway, got close enough...
As part of Steve Nash's "Nash, Camera, Action", a movie parody series directed by Nash himself, he decided to take on Star Wars.
Makes sense seeing as how he has pretty much converted to the dark side and now plays for the Suns' rival, the Los Angeles Lakers.
Nash plays Darth Vader in the clip with Suns forward Jared Dudley as a Luke Skywalker-esque character...
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Lakers fans are somewhat gay (relax, they’re excited) about two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash getting traded to Los Angeles. He was acquired through a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns on July 11.
So how are fans showing their support to Nash, who has yet to sport the purple and gold? They’re handing him beer while...
Steve Nash and some Los Angeles surfer dudes inadvertently just made the greatest Keystone Light beer commercial EVER!
Yeah, that just happened. Steve Nash posted a video of himself riding in the backseat of a cab down an L.A. freeway when a group of surfer dudes pulled up next to him an offered him a delicious Keystone Light. Nash couldn’t resist this generous offer and...
Here’s some behind-the-scenes action of Steve Nash of his first day as a Los Angeles Laker complete with his first pictures in the Laker uni. Steve Nash is such a classy guy as he goes through all the introductions, but that yellow uni just washes his skin out. H/T I Am A GM
Which beer maker want’s to sponsor these people? A group of California kids apparently recognized new Laker, Steve Nash, driving down the freeway. Instead of just screaming, “Steve, hey, Steve!” they yelled “Steve, take the beer.”
Keystone Light needs to hire these guys to drive down the freeway and pass out beers as celebrities drive by. We can call them the “celebrity...

Ramon Sessions is so hurt.
The Dallas Mavericks may have lost out on the point guard sweepstakes in Deron Williams and Steve Nash, but they are still making moves. A nice move, if it works out for them, is the fact the club is looking to make an amnesty bid on Luis Scola via ESPN. They are also in the mix for [...]
ROCKETMANThe pursuit of Steve Nash did show that the Knicks have big doubts about Lin’s ability to guide them in the short term with the win-now cast of characters in place. 25 million for a future D-league off the bench PG is absurd. Yell, Cry, stomp your feet but LIN is History in the archives of the New York Knicks. They will not match Houston's offer despite the...
