Pelicans Could ‘Circle Back’ On Trade Talks Involving Hawks’ Dejounte Murray
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

No team is dominating the offseason trade rumor mill like the Atlanta Hawks, and that chatter is only likely to increase after the Hawks won the rights to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Not surprisingly, the names of their star guards are being mentioned most. That would be none other than Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.

And as relayed by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the New Orleans Pelicans are again expected to be among those with an interest in Murray — an interest initially displayed at the February trade deadline.

“The Pelicans could circle back around on Murray, beat reporter Will Guillory said during a recent HoopsHype podcast episode,” Scotto wrote. “As reported by HoopsHype in the same episode, Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram is considered the most likely player to be traded by rival executives.”

The Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons and several others were linked to Murray in February as well.

As for Young, the possibilities are also said to be endless. Word is, Spurs center and Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama is “intrigued” by the idea of playing next to Young.

“I will say I’ve talked to people who know Wemby who have indicated he is at least intrigued by that idea,” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said on The Hoop Collective podcast. “Now, intrigued by that idea and pounding the table are two very different things. I have no idea whether Gregg Popovich would be intrigued by the idea.”

Also, per NBA insider Howard Beck of The Ringer, the Hawks discussed a Young trade with the Spurs during the season.

Meanwhile, the Pelicans are expected to be one of the offseason’s most active teams, with Ingram’s name already being mentioned in multiple trade rumors.
