Last Thursday night during the NBA Draft, with just seven or eight picks remaining, I was starting to think Peyton Siva may be on the outside looking in. Fortunately for Siva, the Detroit Pistons decided to use the 56th pick on him.
As the draft was finishing up and Siva still hadn’t heard his name called, there were a lot of fans who had said that PS3 would be better to go undrafted and sign with a team as a free agent. Sure, he’d have the opportunity to pick which team he wanted to play for in the Summer League, but guys who get drafted have a much better chance of sticking around than guys who sign as a free agent. If an NBA General Manager waives a player he drafted and then signs a free agent, they’re basically admitting that they made a mistake, which is a good way to lose your job.
Siva will have to prove his worth in order to make the final roster, which isn’t an easy thing to do in the NBA. However, I think Siva is in a good situation in Detroit. Sure, the team is bad, but ...

The Detroit Pistons enter the offseason with money to spend and a solid young core in big men Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe. Detroit is seeking to add to this foundation, as the team has already been tied to free agents Josh Smith and Andre Iguodala. Beyond free agents, the Pistons are also looking into trades involving Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo and Toronto Raptors...
One point guard that is not garnering nearly as much attention as someone like Chris Paul or Brandon Jennings is Jose Calderon. But just because Calderon’s name has not been spreading through media reports like wildfire does not mean teams are not paying attention to the 31-year-old Spaniard. Per a league source, Calderon is visiting with multiple teams and is looking to latch...
The Pistons have reportedly focused their free-agent efforts on one star.
Detroit is planning to make a "substantial" offer to forward Josh Smith, according to Yahoo! Sports. The deal will reportedly be for four years.
Smith, who has spent his first nine years in the league with the Atlanta Hawks, averaged 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season.
The Detroit Pistons and Will Bynum have mutual interest to complete a new contract.
Bynum has said the hiring of Mo Cheeks makes it more likely that he will return to the Pistons.
Bynum averaged almost 10 points last season.
Add Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans to the list of free agents the Detroit Pistons may be interested in this offseason. The 23-year-old, high-scoring Evans is a restricted free agent, so the Kings would have seven days to match any offer extended by the Pistons or another team.
Restricted free agent Tyreke Evans (Kings) expected to meet with the Detroit Pistons & Kings today in...
In a continuing effort to retool their roster the Pistons have reportedly made an attempt to acquire a previously sought after target.
According to ESPN, the Pistons have offered forward Charlie Villanueva and guard Rodney Stuckey to the Toronto Raptors for forward Rudy Gay. Joe Dumars and the Pistons were targeting Gay prior to last seasons deadline before he was ultimately dealt...
New Raptors general manager, Masai Ujiri, is not wasting any time. Ujiri rid the team of Andre Bargnani’s contract worth $22.5 million over the next two years in a trade with the Knicks earlier this week and is now presented with the possibility to dispose of another big contract as the Pistons have offered the expiring contracts of point guard, Rodney Stuckey, and forward, Charlie...
Someone’s trying to tank for the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes.
CBSSports.com is reporting that the Pistons have offered the Toronto Raptors point guard Rodney Stuckey and forward Charlie Villanueva in exchange for Rudy Gay.
The Raptors acquired Rud Gay at midseason last year in a blockbuster trade.
Gay is set to earn $37 million over the next two years, with Villanueva and Stuckey...
The Detroit Pistons met with Josh Smith at 12:01 AM EST on Monday and intend to make a substantial four-year offer.
The Atlanta Hawks have expressed more interest in working with Smith on a sign-and-trade than to re-sign him.
Smith is the Pistons' top priority in free agency, along with re-signing Jose Calderon.
The Pistons hope to make a preemptive strike on Smith knowing that...

For the Pistons, the time is now.
We know that it's been five years (and four coaches) since they last won a playoff game. But that was then, this is now.
If the Joe Dumars wants to get back to the postseason (and save his job), it's time to be bold because the time is now.
Let's be realistic - whatever Dumars does...
Rudy Gay appears to have move to the top of the Detroit Pistons’ most-wanted list. Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reported that the Pistons offered the Toronto Raptors Charlie Villanueva and Rodney Stuckey, both of whom have expiring contracts, for Gay. The 26-year-old Gay carries a max contract that will pay him nearly $18 million next season and $19.3 million in 2014-15.
Detroit Pistons make offer to Toronto Raptors of F Charlie Villanueva and G Rodney Stuckey for F Rudy Gay. As much as a steal as this would be for the Pistons , it makes a ton of sense for Toronto as well. New GM Masai Ujiri is trying to blow that team up and [...]
