The Detroit Pistons might look to another former player to coach the team. Reports say that the Pistons will interview Phoenix Suns interim head coach Lindsey Hunter for the vacant coaching job. The Pistons asked the Suns for permission to interview for the opening. I know Hunter was a long time Piston (1993-2000, 2003-08) and has family in the Detroit area but I don't like the idea of Hunter coaching the team. For starters look at his record in Phoenix (12-29). I know the Suns didn't have the best team but when you have a player (Michael Beasley) say that he plays better when he's not listening to the coaches, that's an indictment on the coach and his staff. The Suns finished with the worse record in the Western Conference. Secondly, it would be Joe Dumars being loyal Joe. The last time the Pistons hired a former as coach was the Michael Curry experiment which lasted only one season. Hunter doesn't have much experience in the coaching ranks and if Dumars hires Hunter the Pistons will be looking at another season in lottery land. The very last thing this team needs is another former Piston as Head Coach. I have great respect for Lindsey Hunter and Joe Dumars but it would be a mistake to appoint him as the next coach.

Lindsey Hunter To Interview For Pistons Coaching Vacancy

Lindsey Hunter will interview for the Detroit Pistons’ vacant head coaching job. “It’s just an interview, like any other,” said Hunter, who interviewed for the Orlando Magic’s head coaching job last summer. “They (the Pistons) have a coaching opening and I was fortunate that they’d consider me. Hopefully, I’ll continue to gain interest from other people.” Hunter...

Memo to Joe Dumars: Hiring Former Detroit Pistons’ Players to Coach is a Recipe For Disaster

The Detroit Pistons reportedly want to interview former player Lindsey Hunter to be their next head coach. Hiring him would be a big mistake. (Raps Fan, Flickr) If the Detroit Pistons are truly intent on bottoming out as a franchise, hiring former guard Lindsey Hunter as the team’s next head coach would be an excellent step in that direction. It was reported yesterday that Hunter...

Hunter Likely To Be Allowed To Interview For Pistons' Vacancy

Lindsey Hunter has asked the Phoenix Suns to allow him to interview for the Detroit Pistons' head coaching vacancy and will likely be granted permission soon, according to a source. Hunter was named interim coach of the Suns in January, replacing Alvin Gentry. As an NBA player, Hunter spent 12 of his 17 seasons with the Pistons. The Pistons fired Lawrence Frank last week.

Detroit Pistons: Proceed With Caution In Free Agency

Fans of the Detroit Pistons know all too well how badly free agency can effect a team, when they spend lots of money on the wrong players. In 2009, Joe Dumars and the Pistons had the most money of any NBA team to spend, but it was a poor free agent class and they ended up spending over 80 million dollars on Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. They finally got rid of the former, but...

Former Piston, Lindsey Hunter (1993-2000 and 2003-08), will likely interview for the head coaching position with the team. Hunter served as interim head coach for the Suns this season when Alvin Gentry was fired in January. According to The Detroit News: A report by CBS radio Detroit stated Hunter, interim head coach for Phoenix, has asked the Suns for permission to interview for...

Detroit Pistons Rumors: Nate McMillan the Early ‘Front Runner’ for Pistons’ Head Coaching Job?

A week ago, Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News broke the story about changes coming to the Detroit Pistons. In short order, Lawrence Frank ended up losing his job. Now, a few ideas are starting to emerge about who might replace him. According to Lawrence and his sources familiar with Detroit’s planning, Nate McMillan has emerged as the primary front runner for the position...
